Yesterday I went riding, and I heard a squeaking noise coming from the front wheel. It is a high pitch squeaking that appears only when I lean left, I don't know if it is coming from the axle or brake calipers. The more I leaned, the stronger the noise, although sometime it was disappearing. I didn't notice any weird vibrations on the handle bars. Does anyone know what it could possibly be?

I would look at bearing play allowing the rotor to make contact under side loading. Perhaps check axle attachment.

For people having a similar problem. I removed the front wheel to replace the tire. I believe that the front axle nut was not torqued properly and a little bit on the loose side. A mechanic inspected the bearings, and said they were ok. However the grease under the seals was kind of solid (very weird looking). So I cleaned it and reapplied grease there and on the axle. The squeaking noise disappeared after this.

To summarize, check you axle nut torque, check the bearings, put grease of them, and enjoy the ride.

Hey Gerry. You should have replaced the tires while you had it off. Maybe it was the rubber squeaking

Wheel Bearing Seal Grease / Wheel bearing 2RS

Something that isn't highlighted enough in the manual. Almost all motorcycle wheel bearings are sealed with two ring seals 2RS, two reasons, first to try and keep moisture out, and secondly to prevent chemical reactions with different greases ( not so much nowadays , but in the late 90's SKF did have a problem with the grease going like epoxy when mixed with certain greases ), and last is the amount of grease, not so much with the bearing size we use but still possible, too much grease will cause bearing failure within minutes, it becomes a hydraulic pump, generating heat and unless there is a place the grease can escape into, such a a open grease fitting, it will fail from the heat generated . Trust me, I have seen it happen, also been there and knew what to do to prevent it.
So my initial plan was to say to stick a paper towel or other obstruction easily removed in the inner race and pack grease inside the seal all the way around using something like a butter knife or plastic butter knife. The main reason for plugging is you don't want grease on the inner race, even though it is held in place by tightening the axle nut, remember the bearing is meant to turn on the shaft not the inner race. Secondly by having grease between the bearing seal and wheel seal acts as a barrier for water, before it can reach the bearing seal. Alos when you have the axle out, take a scotch brite pad and rotate the shaft within it to remove any build up and any abrasions which could cause wear on the seal.

I just did a 1500 miles (amazing) trip, and I can confirm I didn't have any problem with the front axle squeaking. No sign of overheating (by touching the front axle after a ride). Hope it stays like this, worst case I may need to replace the bearings.
