I picked up my Versys X-300 at the docks in Hilo, Hawaii on April 28,2017 after ordering 3 weeks earlier in San Diego. Around the end of June I noticed that chrome on the spokes was flaking off and month later the chrome was entirely gone and the spokes are showing serious signs of corrosion. I called Kawasaki and then had the situation looked at by the Kawi dealer in Kona, Hawaii. As of today I am waiting to hear back from Kawasaki. It's pretty clear this is a factory defect after two months and about 1500 miles of riding. Also,I would like to add that other than this problem this bike has far and away exceeded my expectations. It's an all around super fun bike to ride!

Yes, I live on an island surrounded by ocean but this bike has seen nothing but sunny riding weather. I am retired and have time to take great care of the bike. It is kept in a dry garden shed and partial cover and is wiped down after every ride. I can imagine if the bike was left out doors this might happen after a year or two but two months and all the chrome on the spokes is gone! I have tried some Amsoil Metal Protector but it really hasn't helped.

I would appreciate any intel or experience with a similar problem on your x-300.

Regards,
MickyD

I am surprised they are using chromed spokes instead of polished stainless. Another cost cutting measure. Are the wheels chrome over steel also? They will probably start corroding soon as well if they are.

If your garden shed is as humid as my Tennessee barn, you need to have constant air flow to keep condensation from forming on the bike every night. I have 3 fans running 24/7 to keep the air flowing in my shop in humid middle Tennessee.

nothing wrong with chromed steel spokes.

something wrong with cheap thin chroming.

keep on Kawasaki's back for warranty replacement.

Well that stinks. I hope that you and Maw Kaw come to a resolution soon. I agree with you that it has to be a defect as this happened so quickly. However, in the future you should make sure you have air circulation like twowheeladdict mentions. If not, you're surely to have problems down the road. Let us know the outcome.

I'm wondering if your bike might have got a salt water dousing on it's way over to you. I'm a little concerned as it gets very humid here as well in summer.
