This is what retirement looks like on Wednesday when your wife is out of town. I'm 59.9999 so here's to 60.

And what a wonderful club it is. I retired 7 years ago to the date. I figured April Fools day was appropriate.

I could see it, walk into the job "I'm going to work 10 more years, April Fools, today's my last day"
Mine was, walk in with slip from back doctor advising retirement, handed note to boss and saying I'm out here's my two weeks notice.

I had a "pep talk" with my boss talking about working more hours and weekends, for not more pay, mostly due to their stupidity and inefficiencies. Went home that afternoon, looked at finances, went to work the next day and scheduled my 5 weeks of vacation time. The Monday I came back when that was all done I gave 2 weeks notice. I burned a uniform shirt on location on the last day. I still have video of that, somewhere. (y)

I miss the paycheck but not the grind.

They could have had me part time but thought it best to let a senior pilot go so as to reduce payroll, figuring they could back fill with new hires. Ha, turns out I was the beginning of the Covid exodus wave, so they kept asking me to come back. Then they increased the hourly wage by nearly double for the senior end of the payscale to stop attrition. By then I was too comfortably retired.

How did we ever have time for a job?

I flew my 'last' AIRLINE flight ending on 30 April '03, and received a phone call from "crew-sked" asking IF I would accept a 'draft' to do an extra flight (MORE $).

MY answer - "Which part of my LAST flight that JUST ended", are you NOT understanding...?

Coming-up to 20 GREAT years...!

Gave myself an '03 Suzuki Bandit 1200S as a retirement-gift (rode it to Alaska the NEXT summer), followed by an '04 KLR650 (rode IT to Alaska in '05 and '06) then my 'string' of Versys650s starting in Sept '08.

Agreed, and I seldom worked more than 40 hours/week.

When I retired, my company didn't pay for unused vacation. So I had six weeks off then had to go back for a day to turn in my stuff. I bought these Crocs just to wear to work that last day 🤣😂🤣😂
