ok, so I was riding along a gravel road covered with ice today. And suddenly lost traction on the front tire and went down.

It was at low speed (first gear) and not a hard crash.

Now to the sad part, my handlebars got bent.

I don`t have any pictures of the crash. Only this showing some snow that got stuck on the bike.


You can see that the bend in the handlebars after the Zeta handguards are a little flat.



On the other hand. I now have a good reason to buy a new one.

Anyone have any suggestions on some god and STRONG handlebars?

1st, glad your OK! :thumb:

I have never heard of handlebars that wont bend when you crash. Rule of thumb, if something is so hard it wont bend, it will just break.

It's a good thing that it ended up being fixable instead of healable.
As far as stronger bars are concerned I'd be worried about what is next in line to break on the machine. Collisions need to be absorbed early & smoothly to minimize total damage to the bike & you

Glad you are all right. I happen to like the handlebars, and they are about as strong as any other types. Just be glad it is easily fixed, which you are definitely not! :eek:

It's always better to be carrying more speed on loose surfaces or where traction is poor: the gyroscopic effect will help to keep you upright.

Tapered aluminum handlebars are much stronger and transmit much less vibrations. They can be mounted with Rox pivoting 7/8" to 1-1/8" riser adapters.
I really like my Tag Metals T2 tapered bars with Zeta hand guards without bar-end weights. :thumb:
Do you have the 7/8" or 1-1/8" zeta handguards?

I have the 7/8", wonder if they will fit on the tapered bars?

Not just that, but all the controls are made to fit the 7/8'' diameter.

It would be best if you could try some handlebars in your hands before ordering. They change the posture and feel of the bike quite a bit.

I have Pro Taper ATV (Low, I think) that are well made and cheep but they are quite wide and and give a lot less sporty position then OEM.
I also like the benefit of the cross bar.

With the 2" rise from Rox adapters, a handlebar with about 3-5/8" height: Windham/Yamaha 966 bend (92mm height) would result in about the same as original.

My current setup includes the sw-motech 1" riser and stock handlebars.

And this seems perfect for me.

so with the 2" rox risers I would need a handlebars that are 1" lower then the original one.

what is the height of the oem handlebars?

Or I could use the 2" rox riser and the 1" sw riser and a handlebar with 3-5/8" height (as you mentioned) and that would give me a 1" rise from the original height without any risers?

Only the middle part of tapered aluminum handlebars is 1-1/8" at the handlebar mount... All 7/8" grips, throttle tube, brake/clutch/mirror mounts, and bar-end mount adapters for aluminum handlebars included with Zeta handguards fit on tapered 1-1/8" handlebars.

I guess I would want a handlebar of the same width as the original as this works for me.

do you now the width of the original handlebar?

You could simply try the Rox 2" risers with your SW-Motech 1" riser with Tag Metals T2 966 bend like I mentioned to retain your 1" higher than stock height. You'd still have the option to remove your SW-M 1" riser to have it at about stock height... Rox pivoting risers also gives you some fore and aft adjustment.
Stock handlebars height is about 5-1/2" ~ 5-5/8".

ok,

Ordered a pair of rox risers (7/8" to 1-1/8") and a set of 1-1/8" clamps for the zeta handguards.

Thinking of buying a Renthal fatbar with a height of 119mm and a width of 800mm. As I can get those at my local store.

That will make the whole assembly (rox 2" riser and Renthal fatbar) ~10mm higher then my current setup.

PLUS, it then transmits the energy further "downstream".

I understand that different people has different opinions.

As I see it, the stock handlebars did bend way to easily. It wasn`t a hard crash.
Only a fall at low speed. And I don`t think it should have caused plastic deformation.

But I agree that with a stronger handlebar there is a risk that something else fails.

I also don`t want to bend/heat and bend the bars back to it`s original shape as this will change the structure of the material/cause micro cracks.
And the handlebars won`t be as strong/flexible as it once was.
And the risk that the handlebars bend more then the first time or even breaks in case of a fall when out on a longer trip.
