Hi Guys

Went today to buy a oil filter and plugs from our local dealer and due to the fact he was a dealer and I heard him asking the workshop oke which plug do the versys use, I never checked that he gave me a different plug from what the manual states.

Just want to find out if this plug can be used and will not damage my bike. the plug in question is a NGK CR9EK which he gave me.

Tomorrow is a public holiday here in South Africa so I'll take it back on thursday.

Stay with the spec. Not sure how many miles/klicks you have on your V, but I changed my plugs around 19k miles and it was a complete waste of time, they were just like new. Not going to bother again until I have 60-70k miles on it.

I'm on 24 000km now and decided to start doing my own services and screw the warranty. All previous services was done by different dealers and with each one they either stuff something up or don't do what I'm paying them to do. The last straw was the other day I decided to clean my air filter as I had been riding in a lot of rain. Taking of the one fairing I found the plastic around the clocks was attached with a cable tie to the tank. Now I was aleady fuming for the lost screw which they decided a cable tie is sufficient so I took out the air filter and low and behold the missing clip screw is lying in my airbox. Lucky for me it was infront of the filter. :mad::mad::mad:

The reason I'm changing my plugs is due to I Commute everyday with my bike 140km a day through winter and summer and like to keep my bike in top shape.

The CR9EK is a regular double ground electrode plug. I had one in my Yamaha WR426F, then switched to NGK iridium Big improvement, and notable difference in exhaust note.
Stick to iridium spark plugs NGK CR9EIA-9 (0.6 mm diameter iridium centre electrode) or Denso IU27 (0.4 mm diameter iridium centre electrode) as recommended, for a low wear rate providing stable idle, superior anti fouling, improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and a more dependable spark for less strain on the coils over plug and the catalytic converter.

Spark plugs are cheap and changing them is a pain in the arse.
Get the iridium plugs specified in the manual or at least something equivalent.

I suspect that those CR9EKs is going to erode pretty fast compared to the iridium plugs.
Iridium is very hard and melts at a very high temp as well.
