If you haven't seen it yet, there's a good article about just having one bike "to do it all".

It compares the BMW F700GS, the Honda NC700X DCT ABS, V-strom 650 and the Versys, and, while it picks the "WeeStrom" as the winner, it has MANY good comments about our Vs, including that it's the "funnest".

I refuse to read it if they picked the wee! Just kiddin! ;)

I'm looking at a klx 250 right now. It is still what do you want to do? Question that must be asked. :D

I'd still pick the Versys. Wait, I did pick the Versys! Shorter wheelbase, more responsive. It's a sporty car while the Wee Strom is a large sedan (or SUV). :D

Since buying my V it seems as though every other time I look in my review mirror and see a motorcycle, it's Wee's headlights I'm looking at.

I'm looking at a klx 250 right now.
I am holding out for a FI dual sport. I would be all over the Honda CRF250L if it were not red. :mad: My wife's bike is carb'ed and I routinely realize how big of a PITA it is to wait for it to properly warm up each time we venture out... Keep me posted on your search! My second favorite in my search is the KLX250 as well.. :cheers:

To those of you that are looking at a KLX 250, I had an 09 and traded it on the Versys.

I bought the KLX 250 SF with street tires and wheels. Its a supermoto if the word super fits anywhere with 250.

Fun bike to ride. No balls in the street and not enough to pass a car going 55 mph. I ended up making it a 350 which really brought it to life. After one year, an extra thoushand bucks into it and 9,000 miles I traded it for the Versys.

This was the street version, NOT the off road 250KLX S model.

Get the KLX if you are going to keep the Versys.

I used both as a commuter for work.

MY 11 Versys is now a year old with 12,000 miles on it and I am keeping it!

Thanks for the valuable input! :thumb: My wife used to have a V-Star250 and that thing was a hoot to ride in town (anywhere there was a 45MPH speed limit). It would do 55+ but it felt like "riding an angry bumblebee", her words but I agree.

Having that 250cc bike for a while was a great lesson on the capabilities and limitations of a 250cc machine. Very thrifty on fuel in return with limitations on power and top end.

I plan on getting my second bike for around town only (250 dual sport). They are fun and light and yes lacking in power compared to larger displacement. It is what it is. Fun can be had on smaller machines if people would open their mind and enjoy an easy going ride. The 250's are light and nimble and brings back memories of my younger days on smaller machines. I am just a big kid anyway.

I remember when Yamaha brought out the TT500 - about 270# with 30 HP. It was considered AWESOMELY powerful. Magazines in 'the day' said that, when you cranked the throttle the tire turned the world, NOT just the tire.

Those FI 250s weigh a bit over 270# and make 30 HP....

Oh yah - I raced one (orange '78 I think...) for a few years! Loved it.

I loved the bike. After making it a 351cc 300 lb bike, I had to wheelie at every light, drive over curbs, pass on the sidewalks. cut through alleys and parking lots... I was going to end up in the back of an ambulance or the back of a cop car. So I traded it for the Versys which I have MUCH more respect for. It IS fun driving a slow bike fast.

I have no interest in off road, I did that when I was a kid, so the supermoto was a cool bike like I wish I could of had when I was much younger. On the KLX I could make a city turn with out letting off the throttle, just drop the bike over at 30 mph and around the corner it went. I had the best 17" street tires on it.

Back to the magazine article..... My apologies too. You folks brought back some good memories.

It's kinda fun to see the Versys getting a bit of press, but the Wee-strom wins again. Still, the strong points of the Versys are recognized, and at least they don't accuse us of wearing socks with sandals.
As far as a DS with fuel injection, have you looked at the WR250 Captain K? Maybe a bit madcap, and certainly spendy for a 250. I rode the CRF250L; a guy who'd bought one in August (serial #2!) was selling because he'd lost his job. It had 604 miles on it and had just had the service. So quiet, smooth and civilized! The price was fair, still I hesitated. It was an hour later that I realized the problem. My Versys would feel rough by comparison. That might become an expensive problem! I decided to keep looking for a dirty bike, but one that's a bit more low-tech.

I have, as you said, too expensive and too tall for me, even lowered.:mad: I have read that for a 250, it is not in the same class as all the others both in weight an power.

Tell me about it.. I almost bought the NC700X because the Honda was smoother. It is so similar to the Versys I came to my senses and saved my money. Now I have the cash to get the 250 when the opportunity arises! :D
