I washed my bike last night, bugs...bugs...BUGS. Anyway I noticed the muffler looks like crap. Streaked and nasty. Anyone have any ideas on what I can use to clean/polish it up a bit? I know the header piper can be cleaned OR better yet coated as have found a local shop to coated it I just need to pull it off and drop it off (along with $100.00 and wait a week) The rest of the bike looks OK just the exhaust system always look like crap.

I have used the chain degreaser spray with quite success. I found that the muffler on the chain side gets covered in a curd mix of chain wax and dirt.

Aren't the mufflers and exhaust pipes' stainless steel? If so, then they are lifetime maintenance-free. You can't even see mine with all the CA pollution plastic all over.

I found a little bottle of Stainless Steel cleaner/polish and it did the trick on the Muffler. It was just discolored from cold water on hot steel and the cleaner/polish took care of it with just a rag and little elbow grease!

Heck I was on a roll then so I washed my KLR. It was caked with dead bugs, mud and who knows what else. I went around the the local "You Squirt 'em" car wash, one of the nicest I've ever seen. Clean and well stock PLUS, ie there's aways soap and wax in the tank, there's even a warm air blower hose to dry it off. You can even hand wash if they are not packed. So after $10.00 and 20 mins I found out there WAS a KLR under all the crap. Down side I now know where the oil leak is. The good news is it took 10 mins to fix!
