I have the medium CalSci set in the middle position. I am 6' and the wind hits the top of my helmet in that position.

A few people on the forum have mentioned the CalSci fairing:

Has anyone bought and used one? I am thinking about a medium-sized shield for my Versys.

I have the large and it's on the lowest setting. It keeps the wind off my face and body. I figured that I could always cut the large down if it was too high. I can't raise the medium any higher than it's stock height if it's too low. It looks like a big surf board, but it does the job. Very happy with it. The Givi has more style.

When you're getting beaten about the neck and head on a 500+ mile trip, you'll be happy you don't have a bikini fairing in front of you. I like the stock windscreen in town, but if I'm traveling any long distance, I put the Givi on. It keeps you from becoming prematurely fatigued on long rides and is quite comfortable.

I only use mine when it's less than 112 degrees. I do like it. I ride all day and forget to put my shield up.

i run the vario, i'm 6'2" and i get vary little buffeting on my head, i played with the adjustable wing on it and found that a mid high setting worked best..... i also run handguards.....other than wind noise in my helmet, it's actually a good shield....i had a larger touring shield on my r1150rt bmw and it wasn't really any better....

That is the factory top rack but is made by sw motech and even had the same part number for a while. The sw motech brand was back ordered from twisted throttle for a while due to the confusion of part numbers. That was the story from twisted throttle. Could have been just a story they made up becuase they did not have them for a while.

Golfmuch - I was looking at the acerbis supermoto handguards - Is that what you have mounted there? Could you take some pics of how you have them setup and start a thread?

Its MULTICONCEPT "T" TOURING HANDGUARDS. I like the Super Motard hand guards too. They both install the same way. I dont have any close up pics right now. I will take some more later. I always add different grips. CRG bar end mirrors and Acerbis hand guards. Have the same set up on my KLR. Its a very straight forword set up. Buy the swivel joint mounting kit. Works alot smoother.

Golfmuch, I am in the market for hand guards, and after examining your picture, I likey. One question though, upon looking up the multiconcept "E" and "T" hand guards, yours look more like the "E" hand guards, am I trippin, is it the angle, or do you actually have the "E" guards? The touring ones in on Acerbis site look a bit larger than I would like, but the ones in your photo look perfect!!! HELP!!!
Here's the link for the "T" model:

And here's the link for the "E" model:
http://www.acerbis.com/p106_handguard/129107.html
Which one?
Thanks in advance, *EDIT* and did you have to move your levers in at all to clear the guards?
Fukken cheers,
Erik!!!

I've got the medium in the lowest position. I'm 5'-7". The shield puts the wind about 2 inches over my helmet.

But the noise is brutal and tiring. So I am looking for other options.

Windscreen effect on handling?

I have the large and it's on the lowest setting. It keeps the wind off my face and body. I figured that I could always cut the large down if it was too high. Hey all, I'm new to the Versys, recently picked up a used 2008 with 9500 miles, all stock. Not the most comfortalbe bike in the world. I've got to do something about that windshield. I haven't ridden in 32 years and never a bike with a windshield. Besides the buffeting, it's hard to even hear the engine for the wind noise. I'd rather not monitor the tach all the time and am not thrilled about an aftermarket exhaust. Cal Sci and Givi look like the ones to have. I've found no mention of how a tall windscreen affects the handling of the bike. Can someone describe this please?
Thanks
David

You might try some spacers on the lower mounts to change the angle of the windshield... They sell them at home depot and similar hardware stores. Look like these:

Calsci

I have the largest Calsci and love it. I had one on my first Versys in 2008, sold that bike, recently bought another 2008 and put a new Calsci on it. I know it does not look "sporty", but the comfort is more important to me!

Hey Golfmuch, who makes that rear rack that you've got the Pelican case mounted to?
Thanks,
Handkphil
SW Motec makes the rack and adaptor for the pelican case he has, I have same setup, you can get it via twisted throttle, great bunch of people there.
