Hello everyone me again, 1-2 months back while i was cruising in the city visiting a friend in a traffic light stop my versys was smelling like something plastic was burning then i stop at my friends place which was couple km and i tried to smell the bike to see where it was coming from. Everything seemed fine so i tried to turn it back on immediadly to see if everything was fine and the bike didnt start it did like it was starting but my FI was lighting like crazy anyway i turn it off again for 2 minutes and then everything was fine. 2 months now never occured again and the bike turn on in a chiff no struggle not anything, What may was the cause ? IT was the start of something bad to come or just a coincedence ?? ( i should mention it was raining for quite some time at the time this happened so the bike including me was all wet all day

I've had that smell for all the years with ninja and versys.
I thought it was the stator connector but they have been fine, not melted, not burned.
Then I thought it was chain lube on muffler but that's not the smell.
It is distinctly plastic burning.

AFAICT, it's the chain rubbing on swingarm plastic guard when chain slack is excessive.
Reduce chain slack and lube more.
You should be able to see the rounding/wear of the plastic guard. Might even be hot to touch.

First, check the under bike muffler to see if it is coated in chain lube.

Second, time to pull the plastics and inspect all the wiring.

Also detritus kicked up by the front tyre can become
wedged between the exhaust pipes and burn.

Once on my ZX10R and once on my ZX12R
gum leaves became wedged into where
the four pipes collect into one and caught fire...
it was really bad on the 12... the fire melted the bottom and both sides of the belly pan
I was riding at 110kmh with flames billowing out of the lower
fairing... I was looking like Nicolas Cage in "Ghost Rider".

Miraculous is this, isn't it?? :D but you need to check all the cables properly for the sake of safety.

Yea theres always a light smell when I turn off the hot bike and it hasnt changed over years. Nothing crazy. I think its the heat under the fairings and theres plastic and rubber stuff that gets heated but not burnt.
