I removed the LH fairing the other day to find where an annoying bus was coming from.

Probably due to my bad removal the two lugs which locate into the rubber bushes on the fuel tank have both broken off.

I tried to plastic weld & use metal L shaped bars to strengthen the join - but didn't work.

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this?:crying:

MY suggestion is to wipe a bit of WD40 onto the lugs when the fairing's off, so it goes in easier. I've broken one or two off and just disregard them....

I would use PVC pipe cement. Literally melts the two pieces back together. Wait at least 24 for full cure.

Didn't think of WD-40 before re-installing. good tip. Spit would work too.

Was going to post a pic - but managed to get the lug fixed using Baking Powder & Superglue!

I used vegetable oil to smooth insertion (sorry)

All fixed now - until the next time!

I find the best lubricant for all rubber grommets etc is silicone because it lasts a long time with re-application only needed occasionally.

By certain to use silicone lubricant, not the silicone that dries to adhere parts or seal out drafts etc. The lubricant comes in an aerosol spray.
