Hi,

I was looking for a protection for my V and, since I'm living in a relatively warm country all the year, I thought may be I should just buy the alloy bacboke protection because I still want my hands to be vented and I wear protecting gloves anyway....does it sound reasonable?

thanks!

It does sound reasonable... The backbone alone will provide great protection to your bar ends and levers.

However, if you obtain the shields along with the backbones... even if you feel you will never use them... you'll always have them on down the road should you come upon a situation where you would want to use them.

Yes. (That is what I do when it's hot - remove the plastic and ride with just the backbone.)

thanks guys for your quick reply.

I will see where to buy them for cheap...the whole package including the plastic cover is a bit expensive for me...hence the idea of getting the protection required for the price it worth..

I don't know where to get the metal and hardware parts cheap. But if you think about it, eliminating the cheapest part of this package (the plastic) probably isn't gonna save you much money.
I had a hard time accepting the purchase price of my Barkbusters too. But once I got them fitted, great fit and very stout, I was glad I spent the extra money over something like the Trackside guards. Just so you know, the Barkbusters also include 2 pieces of plastic per side, the part that attaches to the bar and a smaller piece that adds like an inch and a half to the shield. So when summer rolls around I'll take that extra piece off.

Barkbuster Storms only have one piece of plastic shield per side.

SW-Motech crash bars. See video on TwistedThrottle.com. They will pay for themselves if you drop your bike on it's side or crash. Highly recommend. I would say these should be your first investment if you want protection. In my experience the hand guards do not do much to block the wind but will protect the levers if you crash. I've crashed with these and had no lever damage but my bars did bend and were a write off, was still able to get home under my own power though.

I dropped my bike (not moving) the day after I installed my BarkBusters left a scratch on the Storm plastic guard and that's it no other damage.

I got the impression he wasn't talking about the Stroms, since he was interested in protection, and the single mount point Storms would provide less than the VPS's.
The Barkbuster Storms that I purchased from TwistedThrottle were not single mount. The Barkbuster BHG15-01 alloy backbone can be used with either VPS or Storm shields.

...although apparently the price has gone up. Today they list for $9999.00 on the TwistedThrottle site... hahahaha...

OK, I guess I assumed he wasn't talking about the Barkbuster Storms because he didn't want the biggest, best wind shielding hand guards. Haha.
