08 versys with 55k miles on it. I change oil regularly but not much else. I use too do regular maintenance per Manuel but stoped because it was always in spec and a pain to take apart to check valves and it has always run great. The last time I checked valves 24k miles. B4 I start to take the bike apart has anyone had backfiring and power loss problems that I might know what to look for?:usa:

Cheers

I had what you describe happen on the way to work in the rain. Was able to limp to work and at the end of the day looked her over before trying to crank her. Somehow my right coil stick had popped up and wasn't fully seated. No idea how that happend as I hadn't done anything to her in a bit and she stays secure in a locked garage so no pranksters. Reached in and pushed it all the way down and she was good to go. It's worth a look. Good luck.

Check your ignition coils (coil-on-plugs) for corrosion. How old are your spark plugs?

Coils have since been revised. 2007-2009 Versys original coils # 21171-1286 (Denso 129700-4580) were replaced with # 21171-0028 (Denso 129700-5350) for 2010+ models.

Some of us have replaced them with used Mitsubishi FT6560 coils as found on:

ZX-6RR 03-06, NINJA ZX-6R 05-08: Part # 21171-1282
ZX10
ZG14 08 (Concours).
