have you seen any folding shifter (and foot brake) for the versys 650 2015+?

The reason I am responding is I have found it relatively easy to fix a bent brake pedal. All I did was heat it up with a propane torch until it was red hot and stick it in a vice and hammer it back into shape. Because of this I have the opinion that the cost/benefit of them is not really worth it. Probably a much better investment is something like the SW-Motech crash bars that will protect not just the shift lever and brake pedal, but the entire bike, including the expensive plastics, in a tip over minor mishap.

I'm on my second Versys and these crash bars have more than paid for themselves in prevented damage to the bike.

If you don't get any other responses, most dirt bikes have spring loaded folding shifters. Maybe you could take yours off and take it to a dealer and see if you can match one up to get close enough.

flat terrain/asphalt crash usually means higher speed and I'm not too concerned about a mere foot control then. :laugh2:

usual rutted/uneven offroad terrain and ditches are the much more frequent falls' locations that will justify such folding shifter.

(Already got hepcobecker crashbars. FYI, swmotech is useless on 2015+)

Good idea to try to match to another model. (but vendors would likely have listed compatibility already, to ensure widest reach of sales).

nothing to do with a folding shifter/brake lever.
ain't gonna carry a propane torch on a trip...lol!

I really want to find a folding-tip lever.
It's hard for me to remove mine and go to a dealer
because I don't have another vehicle and they don't have much in stock, so it's a waste of time to abandon the search just because the 2 or 3 they might have would not fit.

So, the kind of help I would need is related to any ways to describe or specify the lever's compatibility. Dunno if there is a standard diameter, key, offset, length to search by. All I found is a pile of numbers that are likely just proprietary model numbers.

Any hint?

Go to a "bike wrecker" and get a shifter and brake lever that has what you need, cut the end off, remove your stockers and cut THEIR ends off, then weld the "folder" onto your levers, or buy aftermarket (then do the SAME).

EASY.

I took Ed's route about 6 mo ago, went to local wrecker and got clutch and brake off a dirt bike for $20 (no idea what bike, just bought for the folding bits that were similar to versys size). I was pretty fussy cutting off the tips of both shifters, trying to get the correct length and position but not rocket science. Did the clutch, and have tested it a couple of times - effort well spent IMO if you ADV much. A bit fugly, but works well. I held off on the brake due to time constraints, and bent the crap out of it last weekend. So this week I'll do the brake as well.

I also looked for aftermarket options, preferring a bolt on solution - I couldn't find any that wouldn't require mods so bought the used ones. If you don't have a welder, you could probably find a shop to do if you set it up first or might get spendy.

Good luck!

Looks like still there are no aftermarket shifters for the versys 650 2013 model :(
Just do what Joe did (post above YOURS!), but substitute the word "shifter" where he said "clutch"....

The idea of cutting and welding repulses me greatly. I would rather buy a new shifter pedal and the alien folding shifter and make the project on the side, in case it goes badly. I would also do it in winter when I have months to do it...

My biggest problem though is that I can't even begin to remove the old one even just for lubing. The hex bolt in the left foot peg (holding the assembly) faces the inside, and it is awkward to apply force, and likely has some red thread lock. And I haven't even examined the brake pedal option or disassembly. This is going nowhere for now...

One of them, iirc the brake lever, bolts on with a very very weak bolt. It is easy to strip the head off the bolt. The location is a bit fiddling being on the back side of a mounting plate. If you try to blindly remove the bolt without pulling off the plate first, triple check you are UNscrewing it or you’ll be drilling out the broken off bolt. But you’ll gain proficiency in colorful language.

I simply cut off the shift lever tip and welded in an MSR folding knurled aluminum tip. I also extended the shifter by about 1/2"... I used to have photos of it in this forum, but they're all gone now.
