Just bought an 09/Green, 859 original miles, some damage left fairing, all else is pristine. I have a question that may belong in another thread. Should i take it to a dealer for the break in service/inspection ? I doubt it has had one. My last new bike was in 99. Do they still do break in service/inspections? I could call the dealer but your responses would be more entertaining. Type on!

Depends. Can you change the oil and adjust the chain? If so, you can save yourself some money. Otherwise, I'm sure your dealer will love to do it for you.

there isn't much to the 600 mile break-in inspection..mostly just changing the oil...I took mine to my mechanic for the inspection (I don't trust the dealerships around here)..it only costs money...As a rule with all of my rides..they get a once a year inspection...

if you dont know what your doing and/or have the money to burn take it to a "pro" and have them do it.... if you can remove one bolt and filter then half hour later replace that same bolt and new filter and refill with fresh oil. do it your self and save the money...

also welcome......WTF did i bring the V to the PNW???

:welcome: Let's see about this. An '09 with 859 miles in the Pacific North West? Obviously it was only ridden on dry days. :thumb: :D

the only reason to get the 600 mile inspection done "by others" (as in a recognized mechanic or dealership) is to maintain the warranty...If you do it..it will invalidate the warranty..not that you should have any problems within the first year mind you...if your bike is over a year old..the warranty is expired and you might as well do it yourself...change the oil..check everything else...you can't (shouldn't?) own a bike and not know how to turn a wrench...well unless you know a good mechanic and have lots of dough...
