I have been looking to find out what's involved in an Air filter service on the x300. Is it the same a s the 650 where you need to remove the tank?

It is one of the easiest air filters to remove, clean, and re-install.

Remove the seat and at the rear of the fuel tank there are three Philip headed screws holding the air filter cage cap.
Remove all three screws and the cap.
Pull the air filter cage straight up...the cage is two pieces that snap together and hold the foam filter.
Make note of the top of cage and front of the cage for later re-installation.
Unsnap the two pieces and remove/clean the foam filter.
Put it back together and re-install.

It is easier than it seems.......I think it is covered in the owner’s manual.

Mine was very clean at 7500 and 15000 miles.
