This is a reasonably easy upgrade. I bought most parts from Amazon, but some could be purchased locally depending on where you live. All that is needed are: waterproof switch, 14-16 gauge wire, fuse holder with leads, heat shrink tubing, connectors and/or soldering skills. The fuse holder I chose was originally designed to allow easy access to an inaccessible fuse by way of the added 11” of wire. We are going to use it to allow a simple splice where we will install our kill switch.

Here is a link for the fuse holder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BR5B9RXK?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

See photo labeled Toggle Switch.

The fuse for the ABS that we need to splice into is the 25 Amp fuse located to the left of the picture labeled ABS.Fuses It is located directly under 10A Signal.

I had to modify the fuse holder because the 2 blades were not long enough , as they were covered in black rubber. As it came form the mfr. the blade end did not fit into the fuse slot. I measured the OEM fuse base and modified the new part accordingly.

See picture Labeled Mod Fuse Holder

Once the new blade end was fitted into the fuse holder, I ran the wires up to the dash board. As you will note in picture labeled Wire, I removed all the fairings so I could get under the dash to easily and correctly install the switch. All wire connections were soldered , then crimped, and then covered with heat shrink. This should keep them tight and waterproof. I spliced into one of the wires attached to the fuse holder. The wires were attached to the frame along the way via zip ties. When attaching and mounting the switch to the dash, make sure you have plenty of room to turn the handlebars w/o interfering with the wires. There is a spare clamp that Kawasaki provided directly under the switch opening on the dash. I attached my wires to that clamp.

Once all the Fairings have been removed, you should consider replacing the meager Halogen bulbs with LED’s. Our fellow member Dave, AKA: trekOCLVone has put together a very detailed Youtube post of how to replace the bulbs, what parts to buy, where to buy, etc.

Here is his link
He also has several other valuables links concerning modifications to the Versys 300. You should take look at several of them. They are very well done and informative.

As you will note in the picture Labeled Battery.Comp., the fuse cover cannot be closed. I therefore covered the 2 fuses on the right with Duct tape, and did the same for the installed fuse holder, then I covered all of them with a plastic bag and taped the bag in place. This should make it waterproof, or at least , water resistant.

Thanks for the shout on the LED light bulb swapping. It isn't difficult and doesn't cost much.
The ABS should be switchable right from Kawasaki and if the X300 was being designed today it might just have such a switchable feature somehow on the bike to turn off ABS. I have this modification on my "to do" list at some future date. Thanks for sharing. Dave (YouTube channel: trekOCLVone)
