I'm getting ready to buy either a Versys or V-Strom, and have a couple of questions for you guys (and gals)....

I have an opportunity to buy a 2008 Versys with 700 miles on it for $5000... It seems like a good price to me (especially after looking at Italian bikes) The bike looks brand new. Should I try to talk him down, or is that a good price... and

What should I look for in possible future problems? Any strike you off the top of your heads?

Thanks I stoked to get a bike, and this Versys might be the one... :thanx:

you should always try to talk him down. the question is, do you walk if he's firm? that depends upon how much you like the bike. my seller removed some extras from the bike to get the price down for me.

If you want to bargain with the seller, let them know you are ready for an immediate purchase by offering them X amount on the spot. Cash talks! Good luck - if you get it, you will not regret it:thumb:

As far as future problems - just having to decide what farkles to add that will make it distinctively yours.

First of all, as Versys owners we should stand behind the bike and owner, he may even be on this forum! So, I say get it! Ask him if he has made any mods or changed anything. He has taken it thru the annoying 600 mile break in (max 4000 rpm) and the price is argueably $1900 off original msrp. Besides, it's the Red! Get it before someone else does!

You might want to look for a dealer that still has a 2009 in stock. The dealer near me (Dutchess County, NY) still has 2 and he quoted me $5600 OTD. You'll get to break it in right and it will have a warrantee.

Good Luck

Hi stewutah.:welcome:

Take your time and dont rush. First decide which mode you want. Is it a V or VS.? A little extra time can drop the price.
We are always here for you.:D nad:goodluck:

Sorry about the (almost) duplicate posts but it was an accident and I can’t seem to delete it...

Hi and :welcome: Stewutah,

Talking it down will alway be a plus for you. More farkle for you later.
Get to know a bit of history about the bike can be an advantage.

Like Bob Barker says "The price is Right". I prefer Bob than Drew Carey.
IMHO, a test ride (if you haven't) would do wonders for your choice. Good Luck.

I agree that you should wait if you are not sure which bike you want.

you need to be passionate about which bike you want, or at least decided.

Price should not be a factor unless we are talking over 1000 dollars difference between the V and the vstrom.

5000 sounds a bit high since a NEW 09 can he had for 5800. on a new bike you pay full tax and the set up fees, however.

700 miles is still new. I bought my '08 last year with 800 miles on it for $5300.

Versys is the better performing bike IMHO over the Strom. You get a lot of performance for the price in the Versys.

The versys stock seat SUCKS! But EVERYONE knows that.

NADA for the 2008 Versys is $4,750.00. There is one it Mancuso in Houston for $4,150.00 with 8K miles. Just letting you know.

thanks all... Around here, the lowest priced dealer quoted me are $5899 for an 09, more like $6600 out.... I went in today to a dealer downtown that had two left (I love the green), and he quoted a whopping $6800 before tax and license!!! I rolled my eyes and left. I think I'm going to show up with $4500 cash and see if the guy with the almost new 2008 takes it. I've always ridden Suzuki's in the past and like the Weestrom, but I just can't get over the butt-ugly looks!!

There's also a used 2008 MG Breva in town that I can't stop thinking about, but the whole dealer question is stopping me from buying it!!

I hate to haggle over the price of anything, in fact I’d probably pay the asking price for a rug in Afghanistan, however...

When I went in to my dealer:

He said, “$6300 for a leftover 2009 OTD”

I said, “I can get one for $5500 OTD”

He said, “No way! Where?”

I said, “eBay. Look here...” and I showed him the listing for one about 1000 miles from me.

He said, “Yeah, but then you’ll have to add the shipping cost?”

I said, “What shipping?! I am buying it to ride it!”

He said, “Okay. How about $5600?”

And that was in December. The dealers are dying to clear out the 2009s now.

Here’s a link for a dealer on eBay with a brand new 2009 Buy-It-Now OTD price of $5599

I agree with hardware.

If you really like the bike then try offering 4100 in cash. If the guys seems insulted then just tell him you changed your mind and will go buy a brand new 09 for 600 more than his used 08.
