Been following this thread....

They recommend adding 1oz of two stroke motor oil (the ashless variety used in ultra lean running outboard engines, not the general purpose stuff) per 5 gal of gas in motorcycle and high performance car engines. Claimed 2-5% mpg increase and longer engine life.

Interesting... It works much the same as Lucas Fuel Treatment (I got a 4-gallon case, and it more than pays itself) which is oil mixed in with gasoline, and with very similar fuel efficiency improvement and cleaning benefits.

100:1 two stroke marine oil:

There are also fuel additives to take care of the detrimental ethanol, if you can't get ethanol-free gasoline.

This reasoning has been out for years. Remember the Red-X product, upper cylinder lubricant, or Morey's, just to name a couple. Red-X was an excellent decarboniser when added in volume down the carb while running.

Hey there Invader. How often are you using the Lucas Oil product? I've been using the same thing just a couple of times a year when I think about it, but wasn't real sure how often I should be doing it. How much are you using in a full tank on the V?

They recommend 100ml to 150ml per 50 litres of gasoline (2 to 3 ounces per 10 US gallons). I run 50ml per 50 litres (1oz per 10 US gallon)... I was using it in every tankful until earlier this year, which was working well and saving more than enough on fuel to pay for the Lucas. I'll use it again now before winter storage... So, you can use it all the time. 1oz per 10 US gallons seems to be sufficient.

I use the Lucas fuel injector cleaner or Berrymans B-12 I'll dump some in the Versys tank and the rest in the car.

I was using seafoam, but was recently told by my mechanic that it can actually cause corrosion. Re: the lucas treatment and 2 stroke oil, what kind of fuel savings are we talking about?

Hmmm... so the entire bottle I was pouring in our small tank was a bit overkill then...

2 tanks deep in my SV650 with the 2 stroke outboard boat oil. 3-4mpg increase with bad plugs to begin with. Smoother idle and noticeably less buzzy at highway speeds.

Just threw new plugs and air filter in the V today. Will be adding some 2smoker oil in the next few tanks.

So far I am very impressed!

From versys_rider's link:

"Use 1oz of the two stroke oil per 5 gallons of gas ( 1oz-5gallons/ 2ozs - 10 gallons etc. and that is the perfect ratio. Too much and it will make your engine run worse....too little and it wont do anything.....use the proper amount.....get a little bottle and keep it in your car.....We have seen a maximum of 5% better MPG down to a minimum of 2% better MPG. All of our test mules reported much smoother idles and cruising. No smoking or ill effects. No residue on plugs our pistons....actually the opposite....we saw "cleaning".....I am now comfortable recommending this for all."

1 fluid oz (US) per 5 US gal = 640:1

50ml per 50 litres = 1000:1

I used to run 100ml per 50 litres (500:1)... I actually mixed at about 75ml per 50 litres lately (667:1) which is pretty close to ideal.

640:1 = 78.125ml per 50 litres

I get about 4% better fuel efficiency in the Toyota, and about 3% improvement in the Versys.

Walmart brand supertech Tc-w3.
Same ratio, or maybe a bit less. .8oz-1oz to 5 gallons.

On second thought, I may keep the Versys as is now and run a few more tanks through the old trusty SV first. She was running very rough the last few weeks (bad plugs, new ones on the way) with just adding the oil alone, idle is tons smoother, even with plugs with 30k~

I have started email traffic with my moto conglomerate back in California about this. Most are skeptical, there are a few who are interested, and even one who has done this in his old Honda Civic for years (but not every tank, every 2-3 tanks)

4th tankful so far. SV is still running super smooth. Gonna pull the spark plugs and check their condition next week.

Still averaging 2-4 mpg better than normal!
