It's just trash! I don't understand what a person should have in his head to hold a chainsaw like this.

Well, of course. Especially if you are looking for a quick way to commit suicide. I don't think anyone will survive if a chainsaw breaks the arteries in the groin.

Chainsaws have a centrifugal clutch, and typically
start at idle, so the chain receives little or no drive at start up.

And if the chain brake has been applied, the chain is locked stationary.

So what that operator is doing, looks a lot more dangerous than what
it actually is... probably

Having said all that; there are those that have a psychotic need for attention, and are willing to
harm themselves to fulfill that need... So perhaps the chain brake is not activated
and the throttle is locked full open.

Either way, I'd suggest what he/she has in its head, apart from space, is very little.

It seems though, that you are upset by the mans/womans apparent stupidity.
If that is so; my advice is, don't cry, laugh, as it is not you or yours.

Having said that, you keep missing my point that there is a possibility
that the man/woman in the picture has a psychosis ie mentaly ill.
If that is true, he/she may be not be "a complete idiot", but very sick.
