Hello!

I'm from Edmonton, Alberta. Been riding big BMWs in North America for the last many years, saw some awesome country over the years, but kind of ran out of new roads there. I used to keep one in Phoenix, so I could fly down south out of the snow for a few days for a short 2 wheel winter fix.

I was going to ride down to South America last winter on the '15 1200GS Adventure to see what's down there, but ended up coming to Asia instead. I rented a nice place here near the beach in the south of Thailand to call home base, and am going to explore the countries and sights around here for a few years.

After getting a couple scooters for around town, I bought a gently used 2012 Versys 650 here in Thailand with panniers, topcase and more. It seemed like the right choice, price, parts, and versatility, and being built here in Thailand.

I put on about 6000kms already in a couple months, and am looking forward to getting going on some longer trips. However as I found out, I need to gear it up 10% for highway speeds with different sprockets and chain, and get some decent offroad tires, hence I needed to join the forum in order to ask how others have solved these issues. Not much is available here in shops, so I have to fly in what I need I guess.

I have poured over the existing threads already, but before I get into too many details as these will no doubt create new threads, I have to wait the mandatory 48 hours...

Talk to you soon.

I really enjoyed Pataya Beach..............only went there once but had a ball. I'm new to the Versys (recently switched from large curisers/tourer) so no help with your questions. Enjoy the long vacation.

Welcome, nice pic. Do elephants actually go in the ocean water by themselves or only when people are riding them? You certainly don't see that everyday around here.
