Quess that it was bound to happen? I was lucky not to get stranded 5-27 a.m., I had happened to visit a sick friend, "who has a charger" so I got back on the road after our extended visit. Both my rec/reg and my stator are FUBAR. Rick's electrical has better prices on both components and they offer a mosfet rec/reg for a premium price. I think my rectifier blew 1st as its open across all diodes. I'm going to talk with them about rewinding my on core for better output. Quess I'll have to hang close to my place for the repair duration. I'm between journeyman gigs and it's too....nice not to ride at all !!!

Don't you just hate this cheap Japanese crap that falls apart at the least provocation? And after only 53K miles! Shades of the 1960s. :D

Absolutely. Lucas "Prince of Darkness" lived in my 1975 Norton Commando Interstate in 12 volt positive ground disguise. Oh yes, I should also mention Amal carbs, complete with ticklers, and an electric starter motor that must have been lifted from a model train locomotive.

Still, during a 1980 three week trip from southwest Germany through Belgium, England, Wales to the Isle of Man and back again, it didn't skip a beat. The same couldn't be said for the Goldwing and BMW R75 that accompanied me. I loved that bike and still miss it. It certainly had character. Funny how things work out.

Yup. BOTH my '62 Triumphs (Thunderbird and T-120 Bonneville) had their alternators 'come apart' while I was riding, destroying their primary chain-cases. On the Bonneville I was lucky - happened around the Grand Coulee Dam in WA, near a welding shop that welded up the hole (AFTER I removed all the "junk"). The T-120's magneto got me home OK!

In the late 70's..... I was living in Europe.

British cars would sometimes simply fry the electrical system.... as evidenced by the occupants scrambling out of a cockpit full of smoke.

My Mini Cooper did just that.

The principal reason that they drink warm beer in Europe. Lucas refrigerators.

Lucas is also the patent holder for the first intermittent wiper and the first self-dimming headlight.

Ah, I thought it was the first intermittent electrical system and the first self-destruct headlight. :D
