Gazing into my crystal ball I am guessing that there will be a major re-style for 2014 - totally different headlight and fairings, frame from the ninja/er6, mechanically not all that different with engine capacity staying at 650, maybe with traction control, though that might be added as a 2015 update.

I don't see an 800 coming along with the V 1000 so fresh. Triumph and BMW have 1200's sitting above their 800 models.

The 1st generation V lasted 4 years and 2013 will be the 4th year of gen 2 so gen 3 may be on its way.

Of course this is pure speculation....

I'm speculating the 2014 V will come in two color schemes: Royal Campbell Tartan and John Deere green over yellow.

Pure speculation.

2014 already? Say it isn't so! We just found out the colors for 2013!!! But seriously, with the coming of each new model year I wait on pins and needles and worry the V will not be in the new offerings. Each year I have been pleasantly suprised. 2014? I tend to agree, the V is due for some new enhancements. The 'Strom picked up some nice features for 2012, and it would be nice to see the V follow suit.

I would admire a 1ooo from afar and an 8oo VERSYS how exciting that would be not from afar but near to adorn with farkels. yes the dog house for an 8oo V:teetertooter::teetertooter:

It could be. A new frame from the 650r is possible, and ECO RIDE indicator as what current 650r is already using. Current 2012 versys is still using the very same frame body as it were introduced back then in 2007, which is taken from a 2006 er6/650r! Talk about old tech.

V800- power similar to 650, mpg of 1000

bikes with 800cc have no sense imo...

JD, I Should have been more specific - the new 2012 ninja/er6 frame. The 2013 Versys is still running the the old ninja/er6 frame

I would totally buy a John Deere Versys. :)

I think the 2014 V will pick up some of the improvements of the Ninja 650. It may or may not get a re-style. It will probably get a rehash of old colors.

Not necessarily true. I think an 800 V would be the ideal streetbike. My most recent bike, prior to my V, was an F800ST. The only reason I sold the ST was ergonomics. My knees were too cramped and the forward leaning riding position aggravated an elbow injury.

The Rotax engine was sublime, however. The 20-25 extra hp on the Beemer is very noticeable, and useable. The ST has a 6 speed transmission, as well, but 6th gear is pretty much a true overdrive and I never used it except on slab runs. On the other hand, I use 6th all the time on my V and consequently have to shift a lot more......a bit of a pain at times, especially when going through all the gears coming to a stop(a gear indicator would be nice). Finally, I got BETTER mileage on my ST. I would consistently get low to mid 50mpg. On the V, I've been getting in the mid to high 40's. I'm a pretty aggressive rider and attribute the difference to the the higher rpm's I consistently have to maintain on the V, in order to get similar performance to what I got out of the Rotax engine on my ST.

I have no interest, whatsoever in the V 1000(inline 4), but if a V 800(with attributes similar to the Rotax on the ST) appeared, I'd be all over it.

I was right on calling the 1000 because the engine already existed and it seemed natural to go that route - for europe anyway. The 1000 v strom showed why it isn't here yet. May come, but I don't expect much sales in US with the z1000 and Ninja around.

There will not be a 800 until the whole 650 line becomes 800. Other than the W in europe, and racing bikes, kaw does not create new single engine bikes. The 650 motor serves three purposes in the countries that appreciate nakeds, and two in the us. Same with the 1000 and the 14.

Look at the Ninja 250's. It took honda to lead to the 300 creation. And by all accounts, the price is quite a bit higher. We'll see if that catches on.

650 for the mid (price point very important) ninja and versys is where it will stay.

Only hand me down might be some of the advanced electronics like abs / traction or a slipper.

I have ridden the Ninja 1000 twice (was going to be my next bike) but I couldn't get comfortable on it. The engine was nice, but it was like a sportbike with high handlebars. I am sure I could get use to it, but I like the V better.

No need for a slipper clutch. Learn to blip (rev-match) on downshifts. Slippers are for racing because you get a quicker downshift, which isn't necessary on the street.

Have had the 650 V for 3 years and can ride anywhere on the stock seat but my Ninja 1000 is a different story, airhawk solved any long trip problems but am doing a 9 day ride next jan and taking the V not the Ninja for a few reasons comfort and it has the 3 givi bins, more economic, just as much fun in twisty stuff. Do love the thrust/power of the Ninja as it is smooth and does handle real,real well through twisties once you harness the beast as you can leave the bigger busa's and zx14's behind in real tight stuff.
