I saw a thread on www.klrworld.com where Hondo had crossposted a thread from another site about some tool tubes that were meant to actually be used for owners manuals for Agricultural equipment . When I saw them , I ordered 6 of them . The things are tough as nails and only $4.99 each +s/h .
They are not brittle and are water tight . I use my Versys for day tripping and local streeting . Most likely will never tour her so these tubes are perfect for a really small extra storage and out of the way . Might make doing two up a little tricky , but I refuse to ride two up anyway .
Just thought I would post this for those who might have use for them . The can be mounted of course anywhere you want them . I removed the side reflectors and used a 5m x16 .8 pan head allen screw . I used 5/8 vinyl offset straps to mount the other end to the passenger peg trelless' . They have some yellow screen printed graphics on them when you get them , but gasoline takes it right off without any noticeable change in the tube from the gas .
Here is where to order them . http://www.agrisupply.com/product.asp?pn=65728&ss=manual&bhcd2=1217302468

Here are some pics .

I looked at doing the double up thing , but the mounting possibilities will require a bit more work of course . Happy as I can be with the way they are , but might do the double at a later date .

For now , I am readying my KLR , trailer , tools , and accessories for TDP , Sept 19-21 . I thought the tubes worked out pretty nicely and thought I wold share it with the non-touring guys .

Great find. I made one for my KLR out of drain pipe, kept tire levers, repair kit in it. Wanted to mount something similar on the V, in the same postion. But, nothing solid down there.

Good find, Po-Sloke. I just ordered a couple for my V. I'm thinking at the very least I could put one of these in my freezer at night, (with the top off and about 4 inches of water in the bottom) then mount it on the bike first thing in the morning. Slip a nice cold bottle of water or pop into the tube and Viola!, you've got a hillbilly drink cooler!

I'm not quite sure how the tubes are attached. It looks like the back most mount is part of the tube, but I can' see what you did to mount to the rear peg location. Could you help me here? Thanks...

Micro Panniers Mounting Hardware

Here is a photo of the mounting parts I used . You will see a 5/8 strap in the pic . That is what I used to mount to the passenger peg rack . the rear is mounted in the hole the red reflector was threaded in . It is a 5mm .8 thread metric hole .
Does this help .

Machog ,

I had a teribble time with stainless hose clamps on any sort of rough terrain . All of them broke from vibration with that sort of tube setup . I also found a tube that long catching stuff and breaking them as well . here is a photo of my last effort on my KLR . I have had two tube setups before this . One like yours , and one with butterfly caps . Both with Stainless Steel Straps . They both kept breaking and now this setup is rock solid .

Well! That's slicker than snot on a doorknob. I ordered a couple also. stuff most of the tools in them, and my soft bags won't sag in toward the tire. Great idea!

Hey po sloke what is the thing hanging off right side of the bike up by the engine?
I am assuming you are talking about the Versys when you say something on the right side of the engine . It is a Stebel dual tone air horn . Moves those cell phoning cagers right outt the way quite nicely if I may add .

I got mine from MR Motorcycles in Asheville, NC . They have a website and do tons of mail order . They had some in there this weekend . I saw them .

There is a relay that comes with the horn due to it's high amp draw . It draws something like 20 amps and will defintiely burn up a sctock horn button if you wire it straight to the button .

I did not use the stock button . I wanted to keep my stock horn as well so I direct wired the Stebel and used an auxillary button . Here is a photo of where I mounted it . I did make the install a bit cleaenr before I was done , but you get the jest of it .

Warning! The Agri-supply "rocket launcher" tubes have a small open vent hole on the closed end. Put a drop of glue or Silicone in the hole, or put a stainless screw in the hole if you want them to be waterproof.

We bought 4 of these in the spring and the 3 we had mounted on our bikes to Alaska and back worked well. The hole is right at the bottom bracket and unless you mount it bottom bracket-down, you can get water accumulation from mist in the reain. Trust me!
