19"? Another inch added to seat height? (groan)
haha! not necessarily. i presenty have my forks pushed up in the tubes, 5 or 10mm, i forget which. i do this to make it steer more sharply. i'll slide them up a bit more to minimize the change in steering geo. ideally, i'd like to be 25-30mm above original, limited by fender/radiator clearance and tube/handlebar, of course.

need more information from sifu

Here is my version with RAD mfg hubs and Excel wheels. Took about 30 mins to do the conversion. Easy!
shall we share some info here how to do on that wheel?
from what bike you got that hub and all bearings to fit on versys 650 without modification.:smile2::nerd:

Woody's was building those wheels with hubs from Rad manufacturing... who are now out of business. No more hubs are available.

I just received a reply from Woodys after inquiring about the conversion hubs for the 19 inch swap and it still appears they have no supplier for hubs:( They also stated no enough interest in the Versys to look for another supplier.

FWIW - I have a 130/80x17 front on my '08, and its overall diameter is about the same as that of a 120/70x19, BUT I can't find that info on the 'Net at this time.

I would like to run that size on the front like you did. I don't have the technical skills to make the bracket to raise the fender. I wish someone made brackets I'd buy on in a minute!

Heyyyy, I was gonna do the same thing soon (run the rear 130/80 up front). Wondering if anyone has dared to go 140/80 up front?

Why not just put a taller tire on the 17" front(as fast eddie recommended)? Better rim protection and added suspension.

Glad this thread is still active. I’ll have a full write up SOON, but I made the brackets, bought a 130/80/17 TKC80, and mounted it up. I have a 2016 650LT with ABS. Full test today on road and off road (again, write up coming) but after a few miles it throws the ABS light on. It’s strange, sometimes it throws it quick (after re-starting bike) and sometimes it doesn’t come on at all.

I’m not sure if this is from the tire change or from something else.

Thoughts?

As I ONLY did the 130/80x17 front on BOTH my Gen 1s, I can't even venture a guess, but the ABS may have a problem w/ the different size....

I was hoping you had the magic bullet answer!
OH..., OK, THEN shoot the "sonuvab!tch", but IF that doesn't fix it, DON'T BLAME ME...

Remove abs fuse ^.^
I suppose that would work, then the light wouldn't go on and off, it would just be ON. There was another owner with a 2015 ABS 650 that did this same conversion. He said his light never came on. I"m wondering if maybe I broke or damaged the front ABS wire or connector.

Anyone know how to test?

ABS will not work if you change the diameter of the front rim. A larger circumference means it will rotate slower throwing the ABS computer off.

hi

my versys 650 has a 19 inch front wheel. You have to make a new abs ring: 17inch front wheel has 50 holes

19 inch with 120-70 tire 55 holes

19 inch with 110-80 tire 59 holes
Nice to make it this winter.

good luck

My '08 V650 runs a 130/80 x 17 rear tire on the front - THAT gives virtually the SAME rolling diameter as a 120/70 x 19. A "cheaper" way to go....
