Covered Bridges - Recent November Ride

Photos of a few covered bridges during an early November ride. We were a little late. Most of the leaves had already fallen.

I don't know IF it's the right word to use, but I find those covered bridges to be "romantic", and really enjoy them WHEN I find one....

I have a very off topic question, but I have always wondered why you would go through the hassle of covering bridges. In none o the countries I have lived it is done.

The purpose of the covering is to protect the wooden structural members from the weather. Uncovered wooden bridges typically have a lifespan of only 10 to 15 years because of the effects of rain and sun.
