My first post outside the new member section. Has anyone tried any new and wonderful tank bags on the Versys X? I see this question was asked a while back but I am hoping others have trialed some since then. In my research I see there are three types of attachments...magnets, straps and lock rings. From what I have looked at online and their isn't a lot to see, the tanks just don't seem to have enough room to accommodate the magnet placement with the plastic fairings. I don't really want to slide the magnets under the plastic as I feel it would lead to scratching with installing and removing. The strap bags seem fine however you still have to deal with straps and buckles/clips when installing/removing or fueling up. The lock rings seem to be a good idea but from the few pics I have seen the bags look like they are perched on top of the tank and they seem to stick to the rear quite a bit. Does anyone know of any that follow the contour of the tank somewhat? Another drawback to the lock rings are their aren't any available (for the x300) in Canada at the moment from either Givi or SW-Motec. All on back order and I am leaving on a week long trip in 10 days to northernish Ontario. At the moment I am leaning towards the Nelson-Riggs RG-1045.
I have used the Oxford X4 magnetic tank bag since I purchased my bike in Nov 2017. It works decent enough for me, is easily moved for fuel fill up, and comes with a rain cover for a reasonable price.
I just installed the Nelson Riggs tank bag on my Versys X, and love it! It is quick and easy to undo 2 of the clips and flip it over for refueling. Has good zippers and easy access. I really like the size and fit on the Versys, although the two side pockets are pretty small and not that usable other than very small items. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
A lot of things:grin2: I am 6’4” tall.....so I need ROOM to spread out. I have the tall Kawasaki seat, two layers of an old yoga mat, under a cut down Stearns atv cover, and topped with a bead rider. Comfy!!
That's kind of what they are, but now they're made of ceramic. I had a set on my 13 Triumph Trophy for long distance multi state trips. They are made specifically for motorcycles by a company called Beadrider, they do work. They distribute even pressure on the butt and allow air flow underneath helping to eliminate that butt burning sensation that you get from hours in the saddle. I made two 12 hour 740 mile one way trips from central Florida to Tellico Plains TN, only stopping for fuel and a couple of road side quick eats using the Beadrider seat beads. I also used them on the trips back, but at a more leisurely pace with stops on the way back home. They work, but I only used them on long distance trips, didn't need them for local around town riding.
The Kappa RA311R tank bag follows the contours of the Versys-x 300 quite nicely. I got the bag about 2 weeks ago and you are right, the tank ring for the Versys-X 300 wasn't available in Canada. I found a German seller on ebay ($21 + $11.90 for shipping) and received it in about 2 weeks.
I'm quite happy with the bag. The only issue that I have is the clear plastic sleeve for a smartphone or tablet is essentially useless in sunlight (glare from the sun makes the screen unreadable, unless your eyes are directly over the screen). But, I think this issue affects all tank bags where they provide a place on top of the tank bag to put your smartphone/tablet.
I purchased this Maddog magnetic tank bag a few months ago for $39.00 from Walmart and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality when I saw it on the shelf in the store. Most of the larger Walmarts stock it. I don't use it all the time because I have other luggage options but when I do, its been a good fit for my small items, sunglasses, gloves, keys, water bottle and such.
