Front Brake “Damper”

Has anyone else noticed the thick plastic ring inserted between the front brake rotor and the spokes? Parts list calls it a “Damper”. My guess it is a last minute band aid to fix a brake noise problem or maybe to stop vibrations in the ABS tone wheel which can cause the ABS to make mistakes.

Either way, it looks dumb. And, it could be a safety problem when it finally gets too hot and tangles up netween fork and spokes and locks up the wheel.

Any thoughts?

Ummm, exactly what does it look like.

I rode my new Versys home and the next day noticed a light gray rubber ring around the wheel next to the disc. I called the dealer , they could not help. I assumed it was a shipping bumper and cut it off.

It was discussed but no one knew what it is for.
Just opinions on that thread, mostly just “If Kawasaki put it there, it must be OK.”
Here’s my opinion: You don’t put a plastic thing 1/2 inch away from a rotor surface that can reach 1200 degrees F. That’s just bad design.
If you have a brake noise problem, redesign the rotor and hub, don’t stuff plastic crap in there until the noise goes away.

Not a damper- but a harmonic balancer

Yes. Discussed previously. Why start another thread? Various suggestions, but as the part has a reference number and is therefore official then I would think that Kawasaki would be in a far better position to decide whether it is a good idea to fit or not. I do not wish to get into a heated discussion about this.
