Kawasaki High seat question?

Hi,

I am interested in a new seat at some point and if anyone has the Kawasaki High seat, could you tell me if it is a bit softer? I know that those with it find it more comfortable for various reasons but I was wondering if it has a bit more cushion? I had a Corbin for my last bike and it was very comfortable but they are $500 for the X300 and the Kaw high seat is only about $220. I find the stock seat very hard like many here do and I am sliding a bit forward at times. But if the Kaw high seat doesn't have much more padding than I may find it worth the extra money for the Corbin. I don't do over night rides or ride for hours at a time anymore. Usually my longest ride is about 3 hours and since this bike has very good range it's not like I need to get off the bike every 1 1/2 to refuel. This bike seems like it can go for about 3 hours before it needs refueling. (which is great).

But if I don't need to get off the bike for about 3 hours on rides will the Kaw high seat be comfortable enough?

Thanks.

Ride safe,

JeffR

All versys seats suck. after market seats a little better but expensive. Terry adcox custom seats can't be beat. Your butt will thank you. I don't own one yet (It's gonna happen) But I have ridden a couple of versys 650 and a KLR that had them. All I can say is WOW!! Here is a forumn link that may help. http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...sys-300-a.html

I have the Kawasaki high seat and find it a fantastic improvement. Way better all ways from the OEM low. No more feeling that there is no support up front and you sit at least an inch higher.
It is the same material as the OEM but far more comfortable as there is three times as much padding. The seat also gives the rider more room as it extends 1" further forward and 1" further rearwards before sloping up to the pillon.
It has a different base from the OEM.

Look around for posts by SECoda as he has had Terry Adcock remake his seat and it DOES look VERY comfortable. However I am very happy with the stock high seat. 3-4 hour trips are easy. A huge improvement on the low seat. And you also get to keep the original.

Most seats will soften with use so a little firm means that it will not sack out after a few years. With the low seat I could feel the base over bumps.

I have the Seat Concepts kit on my bike and it is far and away better than the stock seat. However, it is not a touring seat. If I were going on a long trip and spending 6-8+ hours in the saddle, I would probably get a pro-pad to throw on top. I haven't ridden a bike with the Corbin seat, but I have sat on a 300x that had one installed and it's like sitting on a couch. It also kind of looks like a couch. It's huge. If you can get past the look of the thing, it would be hard to beat the comfort of the Corbin unless you went custom I would think.

Thanks everyone. I will go with the Kaw High seat and probably order next week. If it has more padding I'm sure it will be more comfortable. I like the stock seat other than it being so hard. I also feel like I'm sliding forward as well and the high seat doesn't seem to give riders the impression of sliding forward. Thanks again.

The seats on ALL THREE of my V 650s ('08, '09 and '15) have been ridden during VERY long days (OVER 10 hours!), and are comfortable, BUT each of the bikes have had the front of the seat raised about 9/16" (USUALLY as the very FIRST 'mod'...).

fasteddie,

I do remember now about reading the post you have the link too. When I get the high seat I will try that if I think i am sliding forward at all. If the stock seat just had maybe an additional inch of padding I would probably not even think about the high seat. Thanks for the link.

Had one. It was OK, but I sold it, and except for a few hundreds of miles w/ it, the remainder of my "Versys-mileage" (on three Vs...) has been on the OEM seat w/ the front raised.

My "Versys-mileage" comes to 148,400 MILES (238,812 KMS), so I believe my experience (on the OEM seat) "counts"....

I have the OEM tall seat + a beaded seat cover and it is a vast improvement over the stock seat for me. It isn’t any softer, but is flatter and more spacious. I also installed the footpeg lowering blocks as I am 6’4” tall with a 35” inseam.
Next up are some 3/4 to 1” handlebar riser blocks.

I just ordered the Kaw High seat and it should be in next week some time. I just ordered for the shop I bought the bike from since I like to buy local and also I get a 10% discount. So I'm hoping it will be better than the stock seat like everyone says it is. I also ordered some risers/pull back blocks on Amazon but they haven't given me a shipping date yet.

This pic does not even fully display the difference between the two seats. I'm confident that you will approve your choice.
There are more comfortable seats but nothing of this value that is guaranteed and looks stock. For me the sliding forward feeling went away.

PCG,

Isn't that my luck...I don't read your post right about you selling your "Seat Concept" seat and now this. What didn't you like about your Kaw High seat? And did you also think it was much better than the stock seat? Most here who changed out the stock seat with the High seat thought the high seat was much better. One good thing is the dealer gives me 10% off parts so it really only cost me about $190. Thanks though.
