Forum problems or browser problems?

Things have been weird for me with the forum recently. Not sure if it's my settings or a forum problem.

I'm running Firefox, 27.01 on a Mac OS X, 10.6.8
  1. When I click on the "New Post" link, all I see are new posts that day, not new posts since my last login.
  2. Just this evening, whenever I click the back button on my browser to go back to the message list, it opens a new window.

It didn't used to do either of these things...

It's getting to be that the forum is unusable for me, and that bums me out...

1: you are not logging in enough
2: right click 'Open Link in New TAB' (or middle click to do the same)

Never been a problem with me.

I've had a few problems lately but I thought it was just my computer. It is an old Dell laptop. Pages would just hang up occasionally and I would have to back all the way out and reboot.

I'm running exactely the same set up as you (Firefox on Mac) and just did a test by clicking on the "New Post" button, but in another tab, and I can see entries that were made yesterday around 3 pm, so more than 24 hours

Maybe a random glitch, but I will be very carefull from now on and will report if I experience the same "glitch"

If I'm not logging in enough, I should see many days worth of posts, not just today's new posts...

It was opening in a new tab all on it's own any time I clicked the back button. It's not supposed to behave like that. I'm not trying to figure out how to open in a new tab. I can do that...

Based on others replies, it sounds like my "new post" problem must related to my settings on Firefox. I might have to go back to default settings and see if that helps anything...

It HAS to be in YOUR Mac - I have the same OS on my iMac, and the same Firefox - everything is good over here! (Maybe go to UTILITIES and clean things up...?)

Never use those Clean up utilities - they can do more harm than good.

I suggest you Logout of KawasakiVersys.com site
and Delete/Clear you Cookies and Cache - everything from the Firefox History(?) Menu
Quit Firefox
Launch Firefox and login to site again.

There is something screwy happening.
It is definitely not the site causing your Firefox BACK button to do weird things.
and there is NO setting thaty can fix it... just clear you cache.

Lets us know how you go.

Thanks Gigitt. I just reset Firefox to the default settings, cleared cache, cookies, history, etc. This is my first login since starting "fresh", and of course, since there are no cookies, there's no way for Firefox to have any info about my last login and unread posts. Now that I have logged in, there should be a cookie that tracks this info and hopefully over the next couple of days, everything will be back to normal.

I'll update in the next couple of days...

Thanks for helping me figure this out. As far as the opening a new tab when hitting the back button, I think that must've just been some kind of weird glitch that one evening. It hasn't happened again...

Cheers,
Bailey

When the new post issue happens, are you able to see tabs for other pages? If it happens again, take a screen shot and post it here.

Also do you leave your browser window open or do you log off after you are done with your computer?

Here's a screen shot

I'm still running into the same "New Post" problem. I did not visit the forum for a couple of days. When I opened the page, and click on "New Posts", I still only get new posts from today, not all unread posts since my last visit. I typically leave Firefox open, but close the forum page. I don't generally logout of the forum before closing the page. I have it set to keep me logged in (as I visit it pretty regularly). I can see tabs for other web pages and can access them just fine.

I haven't changed anything about my routine for accessing the forum.

I suppose as another troubleshooting step, I can log out of the forum in Firefox and open it in another browser and see what happens.

Thanks,
BaileyMan

OK. Currently logged in using Safari. Last login according to the forum was 7:22 AM 3/29/14. That was my previous post, using Firefox. I'll log back in again on Monday from Safari. Hopefully I'll have new posts from the rest of today (3/29), tomorrow (3/30), and any posts from Monday (3/31).

It's now Monday AM and I just logged in using Safari (last login was Saturday AM). I've only got new posts from this morning. Only about 5 or so. Still not seeing all new (unread) posts since my last visit.

I'm pretty sure now that the problem is related to either changes in my user settings or something about how the site tracks login/unread posts.

I don't remember if I logged out of the forum before closing Safari on Saturday or not...

I could still use some help...

Thanks!

When you hover your mouse over the "New Posts" Link does the Browser tell you the link is:
http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums....php?do=getnew

if you click the link then the link will change in the URL Location to something like:
http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...rchid=xxxxxxxx
where x's are a session Number of sorts.
If you click the " New Posts" link again does the number change?

I just did a test.
I opened up IE which I do not use, so I have not logged in to this site before.
I pasted this link:
http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums....php?do=getnew
and got a error:

Sorry, there are no new threads to view.

You may search for threads updated during the previous 24 hours, here.
As I was NOT logged in under IE - I see "Today's Posts" but looking at the Firefox Browser where I AM logged in I see "New Posts"

So I log In under IE and now I get "New Posts" link
So I click it and the resulting URL is the same as in Firefox - same 'searchid=xxxxxxxx' number.

So it is something with your Account ID/Cookies and if you logged in.

Do you use the app at all for the forum? This could be what is doing it for you. Since the app keeps you logged in, it will affect the newest posts that you see.

@Gigitt: When I hover I see the link with .../getnew.

When I clicked on it I got the following:
http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...archid=4314993

When I clicked a second time the number did not change.

@Kawiman: I do have the app on my phone. Even though it's not actively open. Maybe it's doing something in the background. I did actually get a notification from the app the other day even though it doesn't appear to be running. I was surprised.

I'll check the settings on the motorcycle.com app and/or delete it and see if that changes anything. Maybe I'm logged in through the app and not even aware of it.

Thanks for the tips! I'll report back...

Problem solved! (I'm pretty sure)

I think the issue must have been with the app on my Android phone. I couldn't see how to log out of it so I deleted it all together. Perhaps there was a recent update to the app the began this issue I was having?

I hadn't had the issue prior to a few weeks ago and I've had the app installed for at least a year, if not longer...

It feels nice to have the forum functioning like I'm used to. I can get back on regularly again!

Thanks Kawiman, Gigitt and others for helping me trouble shoot. I think it was Kawiman in the end that figured out the issue.

I appreciate the support you provide for the forum Kawiman!

I am able to log into the site on my laptop, running chrome, but when I try to log in on my android S4 phone, I get an error saying my username or password is invalid. I even tried it when logged off the laptop.

Hello,

I have tried logging into my account on my Nexus 5 and it works fine. Could you please try resetting your password and clearing the cache on your phone? Tell me how that goes and if it doesn't work, we'll look into it some more.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
