new utilitarian mods category? Or change "cosmetic mods" to "non-performance mods"

Having mods categorized into performance and cosmetic makes it difficult to figure our where to post about utilitarian mods: luggage, protection, heated grips, etc. These may be the most common mods for bikes like ours.

Either adding a third Modifications category, or changing "Modifications - Cosmetic mods" to "Modifications - Non-performance" would make it easier to figure out where to post.

I agree that the two modification categories can be a little confusing. Some mods (e.g. exhaust, wind screen) could be cosmetic and performance...

you could break it down like the car forums.

brakes and suspension
body and frame
engine and exhaust

That's pretty much how they do it in the "Technical" section at Nighthawk-forums.com. Works out pretty well.

Engine
Electrical and Ignition
Fuel, cooling, exhaust
Drivetrain and suspension
Brakes, tires, wheels
Handlebars, controls, and instrument cluster
Frame, fairing, body and paint
Modifications
Luggage and add-on equipment
Project logs
Tools and equipment
GPS navigation systems

This might be a lot for a mod/owner to create and reorganize. I have no idea what's involved in that process...

Garage
It's easy to create the forum sections. It would be a giant PITA going through 2214 threads and moving them to the correct sections.

I'm sure it's a major PITA to go through and move threads. If it gets decided to create new forum sections, how would things proceed? Would the 2214 threads stay where they are? Maybe just move threads that were last active within some determined amount of time (1 week, 1 month, 6 months)? Close old threads to new posts?

Is there enough interest from the forum that it's worthwhile to make these changes?

I have no idea really how these things work, just tossing some brainstorms out there, and interested in seeing what others think.

Thanks!
