Tiger Explorer

ride review by Kevin Ash. i may have detected a little bit of home team bias, which would be out of character for this guy. he's seems quite impressed, anyway.

In a world full of people, only some want to ride. Isn't that crazy?

I have a test ride booked for the Explorer and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll also be taking the Honda Cross Tourer out to compare and as a former 12GS owner, it'll be interesting to see how these pretenders to the crown shape up. I've already thrown my leg over the Explorer at a m/c show and it's a nice bike to sit on.

Good luck exploring the infinite abyss

I'm thinking the Honda will have the V4 torque and smooth power battles won and have lots of Honda refinement but be the porker of the bunch. Closest to "tourer" in this adventurer tourer category.

The "we try harder" Triumph will have a screaming triple and all the bells and whistles standard for a lot less than the BMW and which the Honda doesn't offer. The hooligan bike with gravel road and long distance capabilities.

The BMW will be the vibey slowpoke of the group but have the benefit of being well sorted out over many years of development. The bike that launched the genre is getting something it's had little of before: competition.

The new water-cooled BMW boxer motor, assuming that comes out next year, will likely be a huge development...wonder what the Roundel faithful will have to say about it?

This is why BMW will be bringing us a water cooled 1200GS soon. At this weight and power, this group has become at best "poor condition" pavement beasts. Adventure with a caveat.
