The winter project....

This is not mine but I'm storing it and working on it over the winter for a friend. She bought it for $246. It runs needs a few things but over all not not bad shape considering its age.

Its a 1980ish (not sure exactly what year but Honda only made these for about 4 years) Honda CX500 Custom.

Not the best bike to learn on but probably not horrible either.

If anyone has any experience with these bikes let me know...its a new animal for me.

IMO...your friend got a fantastic deal. The Honda CX and GL v-twins were great bikes. Here's a link to a forum:

It's always been one of my favorites, though I don't know percisely why. Just different I suspect. A friend owns a 650 Turbo (purchased new as the original owner) and loves it though it seems parts are hard to come by.

Interesting looking too with the motocross-style bars and Velocette fish tail muffler tips. Good luck with the work.

Those are just about unbreakable. When I was in London in the '80s, most of the city's motorcycle messengers rode them.
