Awhile back I offered to help a member, GraemeD
, who was coming to Kelowna [from Vancouver] to pick up a V1000 from the local Honda shop. From his accent I took him to be an immigrant, so I was quite surprised when I met Graeme and his wife, Sue, that they are on a trip from NZ to buy the bike and ride it to Alaska [bucket list?]
, and POSSIBLY ship it to Europe to ride THERE.
The sales manager had arranged to come in on a day the dealership is normally closed, yesterday, and I would meet Graeme and help in whatever way I could, and as soon as I learned what they were doing, I gave them my address and told them to drop by after getting the registration, insurance, etc done, and we could check-over the bike to ensure they'd have a trouble-free trip, then I headed home to await their arrival.
Soon the door-bell rang, and I opened up my shop to them. The bike was pretty well set-up already c/w NEW TKC70 tires, SW Motech crash bars and skidplate, as well as hand guards
, but we DID move the controls to fit Graeme, lube EVERYTHING, check the chain-alignment and tire pressures, then they were on their way N...! The planned route includes ALL the Alcan Hwy starting from "Mile 0" in Dawson Creek, BC, so I told them about alternate routing in the event that the smoke from forest fires in N Alberta became a serious problem.
Have a SAFE trip, Graeme and Sue!
