First day of Spring Ride.

Flying Nun at Echo Lake.

Today the weather finally got warm and Sunny enough to get the new Versys SE (Flying Nun) out for a ride into the High Country. I headed out about 10:30 this morning across town. Rode 285 across and into the foot hills then turned right on North Turkey Creek and then High Road which goes over the top of the hill and drops you down into Old Evergreen. The roads were mostly dry except in the shadows and had lots of fine sugar sand on them. The bike gave me a couple of puckers, as the rear tire stepped out on the sand a bit, but the traction control and suspension setting of the “Rain Mode” (one of three ride modes) settle the bike down and smoothly transition the corner from sandy to dry pavement with ease.
Turned left in Old Evergreen onto Evergreen Parkway with the intention of riding up 103 Squaw Pass Rd. to Echo Lake. This is one of my favorite High Country rides as the elevation tops out at over 11,000 ft. From Echo Lake one can then ride up to over 14,000 ft to Top of Mt. Evans. However that road, 5, is closed in winter for obvious reasons. Got to Echo Lake and took a bunch of picture and the headed down the mountain to Idaho Springs. 103 Squaw Pass Road was in good shape with only a couple of dicey spots. The road seemed to have more pronounced frost heaves this year than previous years, but it has been an exceptionally cold winter in the high country. Very lightly traveled today with magnificent view, as usual.
From Idaho Springs I took the side roads back to Evergreen Parkway and then over and down Kerr Gulch Rd. and then down through Bear Creek Canyon to Morrison, and on across town and home. Great ride and the New 2019 Versys is smooth as silk. Handles very well in the corners and the suspension soaks up the bumps wonderfully. Something that is greatly appreciated on the poor Colorado Roads.
All in all I am really pleased with the new bike. Is it worth the high price? Only time will tell.

Great ride. Are you the first one of us with the new 1000? I haven't seen anyone else post about it. How is it?

Thanks Not sure about being the first or only 2019 owner. Did get to ride after dark last night. The cornering lights are neat and do light up the corner well when the bike leans over.

Wow, those pictures brought back some great memories. The snow capped peaks are what persuaded me to move to Denver in 1971 after graduation. Then when my coworker and I were bagging 14teeners a few years later we climbed Mount Evans. My moms ashes were sent to the wind about half way up to the top many years after that. NEVER got tired of being able to stare up at Mt Evans from Denver. I did not motorcycle the roads you describe, but did them at speed in my Porsche many times. Life is good now, but there were no years better than those 20 years there in Colorado. Enjoy springtime.

Forty years away from 2 wheel fun. Sure is great to be back smelling the roses!!!
