Sidestand/Kickstand Plate or Larger Foot

I'm very excited because my Ebay purchase of about $11.00 seems to be a perfect fit! I was looking at the SW-Motech that goes for $58.00?? ...For a hunk of metal and some screws?

This took a while to ship from China, but am still waiting for some warmer weather here in MA.

Good of you to take the lead and try out something which might have been drop due to location of manufacture and price. You can get a god deal from Asian countries as they gear up to meet Global market.

The foot is still holding well. Used a bit of thread lock on the screws when I installed. It fit well, and seems like it will stand the test of time. :-)

I put on a similar foot print expander a few years ago and I ended up doing one small mod to it. Water pools in the well at the bottom where the kickstand bottom sits. After washing the bike, sitting in my garage to dry I noticed over time some rust begining at the base of the kick-stand,which is made from regular, painted steel which will rust if sitting in water. If your bike is sitting outside alot through weather this could be an issue. So I drilled a small drain hole in the bottom of the foot-expander,problem solved.

To 'fix' both issues, I installed my 'Chinese sidestand foot' (on BOTH my '08 and '15 V650s) w/ a great "glop" of JB WELD which keeps water OUT, and the foot ON.

I have the sw-MOTECH one because I was pissed off one day after the bike fell in my stone driveway and purchased the first thing I found. it looks identical in every way to this. Good buy. Now I am going to try and forget seeing this thread or I will think of it every time I put the kick stand up/down.

side stand 'foot'

Or you can get a small square of aluminum (some use an electrical box plate) about 4" square, w/ a hole in one corner for a 'key-ring' to attach some string to, to loop over your clutch lever, so you can pull it back up when leaving.

Wow. I wish I could do something like that. My tool box consists of ratchets, wrenches, and screwdrivers...that's pretty much it. LOL.

Nice work.

Wow. I had not thought about that. I have the luxury of being able to park in a garage. Will have to pay attention to if I get any rust. Been known to put it away wet, as I usually don't let the rain stop me from riding. ;-)

Amazing. I was wondering if I would ever want to take the foot off again...but why the heck would I? This could be an option for me. Thanks.

LOL. Sorry. I was struggling for a long time too, but luckily no drops. Your purchase was worth it for you!

I know other riders that use a similar method. But how do you secure it when riding? Just wrapping it around the clutch lever?

(I would be worried to end up with a tangled mess, get it stuck in my clutch, or have it come loose while riding.)

I also utilize this ultra sophisticated kickstand system, though not with the fancy key ring add-on. I wrap up the string and stow it in my tank bag, along with all of the other flotsam in there.

I wrap the string around the thing, then slip it into my pocket, OR into the saddle-bag.
