Giving the Big Versys some attention

Had a nice quiet 4th of July at home with my wife Sue, took care of a few things that needed to be done around the house. Today, 5th of July, the outside temps were a bit cooler than yesterday so I headed to the Foot-Hills to do some more bonding with my new 2015 Versys 1000LT. Still trying to come up with a unique name for it. (any ideas) Rode up Deer Creek Canyon and Upper Deer Creek then over to Old Evergreen, via Shadow Mountain, to Brook Forrest. Took Kerr Gulch over to Evergreen Park Way and then onto Central City and Black Hawk. Turned east to ride down Golden Gate Canyon and then thru CrawFord Gulch on down the rest of Golden Gate and across Denver and home. Temps crossing Denver were about 82 degrees. Great little 200 mile ride this morning. I now have 599 miles on the Big Versys 1000LT. Time for the 600 mile service.

Very nice photos and a good looking bike too. I had planned on going for a celebration ride today - I joined the US Air Force 51 years ago on 5 July 1967 - but it was way too hot in central Maine for that.

Though not impressive to some folks, the high today was 96 at Moosehead Lake and in this part of the country that qualifies as "wicked hot." Roads start to buckle, lakes begin to boil, and moose spontaneously explode! Wasn't ready to let that happen to this Version 7.1 "big boned" retiree!

Yes, November 1st of this year, will be 50 years, since I joined the Army. 19 years as an Army Dependent, 20.5 years Active Army, and 20.5 years Army Civil Service. Almost 9 years now that I have been Retired Retired. Now it is time to relax and GO RIDE. I head for the High Country when it gets too hot in the City.

As for ME... September '57 (ALMOST 61 years ago...) I joined the Canadian Army Militia after my Dad (Korean War Vet in 3PPCLI) signed a form stating I was 16 (actually ONLY 14!). I went into the Loyal Edmonton Reg't (3PPCLI) for three years (I was a 150 pound machine-gunner IF you can imagine... and hadn't started to shave!).

THEN, 10 years later, on 03 Sept '67 (almost 51 years ago) I joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, as a pilot trainee.

To EVERYONE who 'served' - thank you for YOUR service!
