Almost hit by SUV *video*

I hope this is a reminder to everyone to wear your gear and be safe out there. This is a video that i shot shortly after leaving a BMW dealer in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Maybe a stupid question but I couldn't make out the color of the street lights. Did the SUV run his light?

That makes me a little sick. Glad you are ok, shocking video. My DH asserts that all motorists should have to be on a bike for a day, even just a scooter, to know how it feels to be out there when people do stupid things. Well handled!

if you watch right at the beginning when i'm slowing down for my light, trafic is moving on a green light on that side. They stop, my light turns green just a second after i stop and then they run there light, there isn't a yeild at that intersection and it usually gives plenty of time for me to get through the intersection. They had to have ran the light.

Morons in their huuuuge turbodiesel pickups are the worst offenders in my area. Since we have no mountains where I live, one can only assume such people buy lifted 4x4 heavy-duty vehicles, cause they don't care. Just run it over!!!

Obviously compensating for another deficiency, somewhere.....

Close call. Glad you are okay and you did fine by not slowing down. you handle the situation very well. Why didn't you turn back for the SUV and give him......

That was a close call Jake, looked like for a moment after the incident you were going to turn and chase the SUV down

I have to be honest here... Looks to me that you had plenty of warning because that car never stopped rolling. I would have stopped well before getting in his path. That said, I wasn't there and you did good by making a decision and following through by goosing it through the intersection.

Glad it all worked out!

Have to agree with Capn Kirk on this one. Even though you had the right away being on a motorcycle we have to be more careful of other drivers out there that aren't paying attention. if they hit us they get sheet metal damage we go to the hospital or the morgue.

Nice work on getting out of the way, may have saved your life!

I had to laugh when you almost turned around... I am guessing you were thinking 1) I'm lucky to be alive and 2) I want to go punch that guy's mirror off.

I'm not even going to comment on how you should've been driving (defensively, etc) - I wasn't behind the throttle and you may have seen/experienced something completely different than what we do when we watch the video.

+1 on the riding gloves. -10 on the bare arms.... wear a jacket Jake! +100 on saving your own life.

Thanks for your reply. I guess what makes us different than the criminals is we can want to go beat the guy up. And that is natural, going to do it is whats wrong.

Honk Your Horn?

I have gotten into the habit of using a short pre-emptive honk when I even think someone might turn in front of me. I'm sure most drivers wonder what the hell I'm honking at, but I don't care.

If there's a possibility for a car to make a left turn in front of me, I honk. If there's a car that might pull out in front of me, I honk. I am fast becoming the most annoying motorcycle driver on the street. At least that's my goal.

I also ride with high beams on during the day - but I'm sure most of you already do that.

Glad you made it ok....been in similar situations....Had a dingbat in a SUV cross the road in front of me then stop blocking my lane because traffic coming the other way. Luckily I had plenty of time to stop but I came right up to her door and laid on the horn...wish I had an air horn on board.
