Thoughts on Top Gear?

As I am sure most of you have seen on the interweb, host Jeremy Clarkson from the UK Top Gear has essentially been fired. Now the other hosts claim they refuse to film unless he is there. Personally I don't think the show would work with anyone else in his place, and wouldn't be top gear. A few years back I was excited that there was going to be an American version, but upon watching was disappointed and realized that it's the hosts that really make the show not the cars. So for the last 7 or so years I have been watching top gear enjoying the banter and absurdness that is the trio, and am now saddened that the show may be a thing of the past. My only hopes are that if they do another version it is as awesome, and we can watch it here in the US.
What do you guys think will happen with all this Top Gear BS?

I'm hoping that TOP GEAR will continue (after Jeremy Clarkson does a little penance for hitting that producer), and I agree that it's the interaction amongst the three hosts that MAKES the show!

I too really hope he makes amends with the producer too. While he's known for being an ass, the show really wouldn't work without him. American Top Gear is, in my humble opinion, entirely terrible and unwatchable. It should be called "The Thinking About Bitch Smacking Tanner Faust" show.

I enjoy the American show, but for different reasons than the British.
The British is a funny show, but realistically none of those cars mean much to me as we will never see them in the US.
I like that the US show has cars I can see or drive. I like when they do original things rather than just copy British things.

The Britsh Top gear would not be the same without Clarkson, but its not often that you c an punch out your boss and keep your job.....

I love the show but it does seem like Jeremy has gotten to big for his britches to the point where he's a diva and can do no wrong. He might bring in a enough where they'll do a group hug but right now he still sounds unapologetic:

Just move the producer to something else.... why disband and jeopardize a top show over a dispute from two people. In Canada/US with NHL Hockey.... when a team is suffering and not doing well, it is much easier to fire the coach, then dismantle the team..... (I'm not debating the right or wrong of that concept here, just that it happens, and usually has the necessary effect). The BBC has a real issue here, that needs to be handled carefully, but in the end.. they need their shows to do well. The other option is to "Reboot" the show and start something new, like they did with Mythbusters....

I really liked Top Gear until about three or four years ago; I'm afraid they jumped the shark and got more and more ridiculous with their challenges. They really lost me when they ran several "new" seasons of cobbed together highlights from earlier shows.
I am with you that it won't work without Clarkson. His ego and bombast are part of the fun. I think I will miss the idea of Top Gear more than the real thing.
I, too, tried to give American Top Gear a chance but just couldn't stick with it.
It will be interesting to see what happens.

If slapstick tickles ya, try the Three Stooges. If watching people bully one another is your thing, maybe Big Time Wrestling is an alternative. As to cars, who gives a F*CK about cars? We got bikes yannow?

Tried watching both Australian and American top gear but could not get into it. Without Clarkson the show may as well end as his chemistry with the other two is what makes the show IMHO

Clarkson is an ass, but he makes the show what it is. I think Top Gear has run it's course. It was fun while it lasted.

IMHO Jeremy didn't do himself any favors when he went ballistic during a charity event yesterday lambasting the BBC and in the process using the F word entirely too many times - which is to say more than no times. Too bad.

Welp, so much for that. BBC has axed him, apparently.

Screw that anything with a motor. Sure I have a bike, and I love bikes, but anything with a motor is cool in my book.

The American version pretty much sucks. I won't be watching Top Gear without Clarkson. Good on his buddies for standing with him.

BBC has officially dumped him. There was no other reasonable response they could have had to this situation. As a television character he's very entertaining and funny, as a real person though, there does not seem to be much to admire. It will be interesting to see what happens.

There have been many drivers playing the part of Stig through the years the show has run. All are/were accomplished professional race car drivers.
