slightly worn tyre

I was doing the Aussie Hardarse Challenge on the ZRX 1200 (1600 km in 48 hours) got to 400 km and noticed the rear tyre was worn. No real options to buy a tyre out in the bush on a Sunday so I rode home (480 km) and took the bike to the bike shop for new tyres. Took a pic of the rear and thought I'd share it with you. The last 80 km home was the slowest most boring and uncomfortable ride I have done as I was only doing around 60 km/h.

Tomorrow it will have a nice new set of PR4's and one day I will have another go at the Challenge.

Good thing you decided to have a look.

Similar thing happened to a buddy of mine. We rented Gold Wings in Seattle and were up in BFE NE BC.

He decided to look at his tire when we stopped for the day and it was bald as a baby's butt. And of course the next day it rained all day.

I rode behind him on the way to the next town to get it changed. I was amazed how well that thing still threw water away from the tire even in that condition. But fortunately, he caught it before he got down to his belts.

Then I hope you've got another review in you. I've read that at least some of those tires with those numerous skinny cross treads can cause the bike to feel like it's wallowing when it's cornered briskly.

Angel ST's?

I was in the same situation a few months ago. This was about 100-110 miles from home.

I'm glad you made it back safely.

No chicken strips on mine

I think mine are GT's not sure they were on the bike when I bought it.

Love the PR4's got them on my Versys about 2 months ago already have 1200 km on them. Great tyres.

That sure as hell is a nail in the tire up on the left... Can you pull it out and show it to us, MaverickAus, or is the tire gone for good now?

I'm voting nail..looks metallic to me...you don't need to replace those tires UNTIL the belts show ALL THE WAY AROUND...honest..I wouldn't kid you...

Yeah, a small stone would not nest itself on the tire's flat surface like that... You can also see how the nail's worn and sharpened head started eroding the rubber around it.

It was a nail the bike shop rang and told me (after telling me I need new brake pads). I'll see if they kept it when I pick the bike up.

Thumbs up

Cool... Maybe seeing that canvas strip did save you from impending doom.

I have had them on the V for 2 months and no noise. Well no more than normal. The Pirelli Angel GT's were whiny on some surfaces but I cannot fault the Michelins.
