Mission accomplished! I'm trying to figure out what he did. It looks like he started skidding? while pretty much going straight?

The camera had a tractor beam on him.

Like the OP said target fixation. He realized he was going to run into the back of the camera bike and hit the front brake. Front wheel locked, front wheel turned and bingo faceplant.

he was breaking for 1 second before lock up...
you can see him straighten up and the suspension dip.
but for some reason the front just locks up - maybe he let the rear brake go and this was too much for the front and it locked up.

target fixation - or poor braking skills... or poor observation skills of what is happening in front.

he certainly was heading towards the center lane before he started braking and he just kept going straight.

That video reinforces WHY I don't ride in groups of more than two or three.
