ouch...

why would you ride with such a dirty windscreen?

I do like how he dusted off the tank bag so it would not scratch the tank when he put it back on.

He's a lucky man.

Damn, 30 secs earlier and his bike would've gone over the cliff. Few seconds later and he'd have been run over by the truck that stopped to help. All in all, very lucky, I'd say. Not sure how he lost it.

He says it in the video to the driver and towards the end... on the road at the start of the black mark he hit gravel lost the front and low sided.

Considering where he was - open cutaways of dirt and rock, i am surprised there was so little dirt and gravel on the road. I would have expected more hazards on the road from small rocks sliding down and landing on the road or being picked up from cars drifting onto the shoulder and flicking stuff back onto the road.

That guy nearly ate some Ford. Lucky. If you notice at about 8:40 and again at 10:25, his front tire is BALD. Tread depth is your friend here.

To say he was lucky would be an understatement. Thankfully that guy in the truck was paying attention.

He needed to go play the Lottery after that one!

You're right - good catch. So:
1. Worn front tire.
2. Too fast for road conditions (road surface, shadows)
3. Too close to centerline on right-hand turns (leaving little margin for opposing traffic)
4. Too hard on the throttle (lots of up/down suspension motion)

He *is* lucky - that was a close call. I would have been run over and then spit out the back truck tires and over the cliff.

Someday is not a day of the week.

I came across a similar situation in New Hampshire, it shook me to my core and caused my to go all hi-viz, biggest reason couldn't see the body in the road as quickly as I would have if he was wearing full hi-viz so it made me think if I was to have a minor crash and end up in the roadway, I figure the hi-viz should help fwiw.

MSC and other training organizations need to edit this down to a 6-7 minute video for all riders to see. Pretty sobering.

That sad and unforgetable video is perfect as is. It gives the viewer plenty of time to reflect. I'm sure it has helped more than one rider. I'll revisit this thread before my riding season.

When my buddy Joe had his terrible crash in '08, he was wearing jeans, a black leather jacket and a blue helmet. (I've attached a photo BECAUSE you can't make out his face.)

He was hit on his left leg (which probably shattered it), throwing him off the bike, landing him pretty much on the center-line. The car just behind the accident car then ran over him (NOTHING bright or reflective!) causing MOST of his serious injuries.

ATGATT, boys and girls, and HI-VIS!!!

(He was in hospital almost a year, but is back riding now, altho' he does wear ATGATT and HI-VIS.)
