The big retirement prezzie !!!

Sme of you may know that I was lucky enough, at the age of 53, to get early retirement from my job. August 1st was my first day of being officially off the hook, the timing couldn't have been better as my big retirement present had arrived and was ready to be picked up. Unfortunately, the weather turned nasty for the main part of the day, but cleared up in the evening which enabled me to go pick my new baby up. I was only able to bring her a mere 20 miles home, but I know I've made a good choice and can't wait to get some more miles under the belt.

My wife and kids have also pushed the boat out and bought me a gift to celebrate this change to my life and given me something that means so much to me. The biggest hero in my life was my Dad. He flew Spitfires amongst other types during WW2 and although I can't get into the seat, this is the closest thing in the country that is achievable.

http://goactionstations.co.uk/

So all in all, a great start to the next chapter of my life. Or as a close friend put it, 'It's not a new chapter, Davy, it's a whole new book'.

Those seats are part of the comfort pack (seats/heated grips and tall screen). Heated, 2cms deeper with a different profile and shape. The stock seat on the demo was ok for about 100 miles before I started to squirm and in my short trip home, this one feels better. So here's hoping.

Good luck exploring the infinite abyss

Congrats! Since work funded retirements are going the way of the dodo bird, and 401k accounts aren't performing like they predicted they would 20 years ago, I don't know if and when I will retire.

At least I get to put about 18,000 miles a year on two wheel for work related trips.

Enjoy your spare time.

Good on ya, man. Travel while you can, and when it's Winter up there, it's Summer 'cross the Equator, so follow the sun!

I'm retiring in 1001 days 8 hours 16 minutes, but whose counting?

Someday is not a day of the week.

Cool bike!

My dad did not get to fly in a Spitfire in WWII, he had another path during the war. Since he was an engineering student when the war broke out "for us," he got to continue his studies. Then in 1943 he ended up in Recife Brazil repairing aircraft for the escort carriers that helped subdue the U-boat menace so that Argentian beef could feed the UK.

Unfortunately my Dad died quite a while ago. Enjoy the time you have and ride carefully.

Spectacular! Congratulations on your retirement, your KTM, and most of all your Spit ride. I'll always remember my Spit flight although it was many years ago. An unforgettable experience.

What a grand family you must have.

860mm (33.5) to 870 (34.3 inches). The comfort (heated) seats add another 20mm (3/4 inch) to the height. However, I have a 31' inside leg and can easily get both feet on the ground when suspension sag is taken into account plus the seat is very nicely shaped and narrow at the front portion to aid foot down placement.

I've been trying to rack up some miles on the bike and although she's in her running in period, I can tell how awesome this bike is going to be. First 200 miles was kept around the 4k revs (which equates to 68 mph) with bursts up to 5/5500 rpm. Now that I'm into the second phase of running in, I'm starting to stretch her legs and increasing the bursts up to 6500 rpm with some crusing @ 5/5500 rpm. We're now into having to be careful where that is done as triple digits are possible. To say the least, I am so glad I bought this bike and it is living up to every expectation I hoped for. The handling is superb, brakes are fantastic, ergos great (adjustable footrests/handlebars/seat height) and even tho' the engine is tight, economy after the first full tankfull was 50 mpg (Imperial gallon) and I got 225 miles before the low fuel warning came on. There's three litres of petrol left at that point, so I could have easily got 250 miles before refueling.

Love it love it love it !!!
