Crash landing

Saw this a few weeks back. Navy crash landed one of their 50yr old Sea King Helicopters near my house on a construction site. According to the news was a hydraulic failure.

Interesting. I wonder if you could claim salvage rights.

I always thought crashing & landing were seperate events.
No wreckage or bodily injury....that's a landing...just unplanned

This USAF retiree agrees. If pieces don't fly off and there's no blood when the dust settles that's a landing. And if it bounces in the process you can take credit for several landings

Yep. Emergency Landing. When I read the title I expected to see something different.

What are they building that requires that huge crane that I see in the background?

I have to agree with the others, that's not a "crash landing", probably more of an "emergency landing".
In four years as a UH60 Blackhawk crewchief I've been through a couple "unplanned" landings but I wouldn't classify them as crashes, or even emergencies.

This is really one of the sweet things about a helicopter, if you have to put it down in a field or gravel lot, it's an "unplanned landing", you put a fixed wing craft down in a field, it's probably going to be a crash.
