Not a big fan of ABATE since they don't represent my concerns. They seem to spend all their efforts and money campaigning against helmets. The money they spend campaigning and lobbying against helmet use would be much better spent IMO on trying to improve rider safety and other motorcycling related issues.

I guess I never really thought about the ABATE part. I just liked the "look twice save a life" part. I saw a lot of guys riding up there with no helmets too. Must be members.

I agree

Some of ABATE's causes do seem a little off kilter.. especially the no helmets thing.. I wiped out a few months ago and if I wasnt wearing an armor jacket and helmet,, lets just say I wouldnt have walked away like I did.. I had to replace my helmet and one of the shoulder pads in my jacket.. I was sore for a while,,but lived. I couldnt have imagined what my head would have looked like if it took the hit instead of the helmet... I would like to see them raise funds for free helmets and protective gear for young riders as opposed to trying to change laws in place for safety,, ie.. traffic laws passed in all 50 states requiring helmets same as seatbelts in cars.

The thing about ABATE is I don't think they are as much anti-helmet as they are anti-law. I tend to agree.
While I'm a strong believer in wearing a helmet and I do it even though my statesays I don't have to, I also feel strongly that someone sitting at a desk in your state capital shouldn't be making that decision for you.
That being said, I understand why everyone feels the way they do, however that is, and I respect their beliefs.

This didnt help their cause.

Here in Canada the government pays for health care (with our taxes be it), so helmet law is just a no brainer. In the USA if you get involved in an accident and weren't wearing a helmet, unless you had awesome private insurance, chances are you're on your own, that's probably why there's still states where the helmet is optional, cause they don't care if it prevents serious injuries, they don't have to pay for it.

Except when someone is badly injured and "on their own" they still get medical treatment. Those of us who do have insurance end up paying more for it as a result.

Not sure what the text says, but working with the image I'd vote Ja!

West of where I am we have Lemming Corner. This was the nick name for years because so many people go into it too hot on the throttle and it kicks them off. The roadside is littered with busted up fairing plastic.

A few years ago the road authority officially named it and put a sign up so people know they are entering it.

This is a pretty poor pic, copied from Google Maps street view. One day I'll get out there and take a proper pic.

This is a famous bike road. You can travel it on street view by chasing up Buckety, NSW, Australia in google maps. Lemming Corner is the bendy bit 3.6 Km north.

You can help make Clem a household name
