Life in paradise

Winds on Hatteras Island are constant 30 mph with gusts climbing to 60-65 mph. Tide is coming in the yard from the sound-side and is predicted to reach about 3 ft. Sometime tomorrow the wind will shift to give us ocean-side over wash which will close highway 12 for a few days, after the water goes down the sand has to be removed enough for 2 wheel drive vehicles. My home and shop are on pilings, up 5 ft. so that's ok but I'm out of booze.....

Hatteras must be beautiful this time of the year. One time many years ago I ran out but ever since I've kept a bottle or two in reserve, it does keep you know.

We are now getting some of the worst ocean over-wash seen in decades. Highway 12 is cut off both north and south of us, both standing water and lost pavement. Waterfront homes are being pounded, Food Lion (our only grocer) may soon be flooded. No more jokes about booze.

Thanks Milo, the roads finally opened yesterday so Food Lion is restocking(the water did not reach Food Lion) trash pickup and mail returning to normal and the home maintenance people are happy because they have months of work getting the rentals ready for tourist season, lots of beachfront damage. My personal damage was minimal since we don't live on the beach, but back in the old fishing village. All's well that ends well but I won't put the bike on the road for some time, still to much sand.

My daughter and family are vacationing now in Nags Head. A little cool but better than a month or so from now when it gets crowded I suppose.
