New Isle of Man Top Speed Record: 206 mph

By Alex Edge

In an indication of just how crazy the Isle of Man TT really is, New Zealander Bruce Anstey set a new top speed record when he was clocked at 206mph on the mile-long Sulby Straight during practice for the Superbike-class race. Anstey was aboard a race-modified Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Just for reference, 206mph is basically the same as the highest speeds that have ever been recorded from World Superbike machines, and extremely close to that of MotoGP prototypes

I have BIG respect for those guys. I watch every year on TV and am always amazed at the speeds they're doing with nothing but a stone wall to bounce off...!

Max Biaggi did 335-ish km/h last year on the Aprilia, and a few weeks ago Tom Sykes did 339 km/h (211 mph) on the Kawasaki on Monza straight. On intermediate (not full slicks) tyres. That's much faster then the F1 car in the same place.
It's realistic to expect Pedrosa to top 350 km/h on Mugello straight this year.

Anyway, it's soooo much more awesome to do it 'over the hill' at the TT.

Only 10 days to this years race!

Thanks for reminding us about the movie, Phill. I completely forgot about it. Downloading it now.

Martin Jessop did 335 km/h or 208 mph on a Ducati at the NorthWest 200 yesterday.
On a public road. Without slipstream.
They say there may be even quicker times on Saturday.

Brilliant, Guys who are truly daredevils in my book.
No safety barrier, no run off area. It's scary thinking of it.

Versys engine racing IOMTT

Qualifying week at the IOMTT started.

It's so great to hear the familiar engine note.
"Super Twin" class is raced this year. Around 20 ER6 bikes and a few Suzukis.
Everybody seems to like the class and it's attracting great riders.
Even Jeremmy McWiliams (MotoGP legend) came out of retirement to ride a Kawasaki at the NorthWest200 a few weeks ago. He came second!

They are hitting around 230km/h.

Here is a great, live, radio station where you can hear the bikes in the background as they blast by.

Here is a little preview of how Kawasaki 650 looks like:

They say one can have a competitive machine for around £20,000.

Here is the bike.
Different forks, swingarm, shock, exhaust, clip ons, modified seat and instrument panel, some water pump modification (another radiator?), steering dampener...
Does anyone see anything else?

^ Good info but you were off on your F1 statement.
In the Italian Grand Prix 2004, Antônio Pizzonia of the BMW WilliamsF1 team recorded a top speed of 369.9 km/h (229.8 mph). wiki
