talking about numbers

This could very well only be my opinion, but I wonder:

Why do americans get so weird talking about numbers? Like how much they paid for their bike, their accessories, how much they make, how they afford something, etc etc.

I have been to other countries and talking about prices or income or even who you are going to vote for, is no big deal. Especially my friends from asia, their parents will just straight up ask you how much you weigh or who you voted for?

like i said, this could just be me. I tend to not have anything to hide but then again I am almost always the tallest nail or the squeakiest hinge.

wow, that is the best deal i have heard of. You saved enough to buy like every accessory there is.

good deal

I guess where this came from is, down in georgia manners are super important and you just dont talk about certain things. But that always makes it awkward when you need to have a real conversation about real issues. I just thought it was funny that my friends parents would welcome me in there house and then right off the bat say " wow, you are a big man, how much you weigh?"

Don't be offended by it. Thier just curious I've been with an asian lady for the last 7 years and when i meet her family its the same. I'm 6"2' 270lbs and next to most of them i seem like a giant.

Yeah, I thought so too, which is why I scooped it up. From the original owner too. I guess it's also part of my "cheapness" as I continue to look for DIY and cheap add ons and accessories.

I have no problem telling people when I get something for a really good price. However, I would have a hard time admitting that I paid full price for something, or got something from the dealer (like my used car ) as I know I have fallen victim to the capitalist system.

yea, i took 3 hours at the dealer trying to make sure i didnt get ripped off. Which is worthless because you will almost always get ripped a little because they have to make money. But in the end, I bought the bike because I sold my rock crawling jeep in georgia, and my old bike wasnt reliable, so this was perfect and I am glad I got the new one so in a couple years I wont wish I always had.

but yea, it was hard cause my wife was sitting there goin "come on, get it! what a good price!" ... which didnt make it easy for me to say no. I probably didnt get the best deal ever, but my monthly payments are manageable and i got my dream bike. So i'm good.
