A HUGE Okanagan forest fire!

Yesterday I was trying to read on my balcony, but the wind kept disturbing me, so I grabbed everything and went to my garage (faces E) where I sit on a chair, reading and eating peanuts, in the door-way.

I hit the garage-door-opener, pulled out my chair, looked E to see what I INITIALLY thought was a massive thunderstorm, then realized it's a MASSIVE forest fire, as I could see aircraft flying the periphery, so I grabbed my camera and took some pics. To me it also looked like an volcanic-eruption.

Turns out it is "human-caused", and resulted in an emergency evacuation of 1,100 people! From first to last pic, was ONLY 24 minutes, so you can see how FAST the fire was growing!

What an amazing view from your home! Hard to believe what we're looking is smoke from a fire. Astounding.

Can't show you any photos like that in Maine (thankfully), but our "home" residence just northeast of San Antonio is bracing for Hurricane Harvey. Although we're 2400 miles away (I think that's about 19,000 kilometers or is it kilograms?) I can predict with almost uncanny accuracy that at least one "hold my beer and watch this" Texan will try to drive through what's curiously called a low water area on a road and be washed away. The problem is that when that happens it's too late for a lesson in basic hydrodynamics.

Hi Eddie and Mrs Fasteddie. Bummer to see all that going on yet, especially the human caused part.

We just got home today. I did manage to wear that rear brand new Angel down to the wear bars. An excellent trip and was glad to have both of you be a part of it.

Hope your trip was equally as good.

Holy Smoke, Batman! That's almost unbelievable. Volcanic describes it well. Hope no one was killed or seriously injured.

We have had a rough fire season in western Oregon. Since the middle of July I've only seen a handful of nice clear days. Here, at the south end of the Willamette valley (pronounced wil-am-et), there have been fires in every direction so no matter which way the wind blows it just stays hazy. Lots of amazing sunrise and sunsets though. Today, especially, the sun is casting an eerie orange light in midday. I haven't heard of any fatalities or much about structure loss. God bless those fire fighters. They have been really busy.

I agree. THEY are "HEROS" in my book!

About 400 people were allowed back into their homes yesterday.

SO, YOU'RE the bastards that have been stinking us up in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon!

Road trip on the 650 went to Hells Canyon and we couldn't see a damned thing!

(650 road trip report coming soon)

{haughty sniff} I would think that at least you'd keep your smoke to yourselves!

joking aside, I hope they get it under control soon, and no firefighters are injured in the process.

Here's a pic I took in MT on 5th Aug, 2015.

And here's one I took looking S into WA from Christina Lake, BC, the next day.

Then I took this from the overlook above Oroville, WA, SAME day....

Seems to ME, that THAT year it was YOU stinking US out....

The wife often accuses me of that heinous crime. I try to blame the dog, but she's usually out of the room so that accusation rings hollow. Sigh, I *try* to be a good boy...

Yeah, that smoke is making it all the way to the Black Hills in SD...........no smell just a haze making it "look" nasty. Lucky for us we haven't had any large fires this year so far.

THIS year TOO - last evening's TV news showed a satellite image that showed the plumes of smoke. The biggest started from S central WA state, curling up to here. Yesterday was the WORST smoke I can remember ever seeing!

This morning I had to use my pressure washer to get the ashes off my car, and our patio furniture (I'll add a pic or two when I make the pic files smaller).

My son brought his family here for the week from Utah and we've been stuck in the house. Going to the coast to find a breath of fresh air today.

some pics of the damage...

I rode by the area of the fire two days back, and took a few pics of what can be seen from BC 33 highway.

As I headed E I only saw burned areas near the road, but when I was heading back W I could see where the whole side of the hill was burned brown, altho' the pics do NOT do that justice!

Then, as I headed down-hill into Kelowna I took two pics of the fire S of Kelowna, near Peachland/ Summerland.

a few more pics...

I went for a ride a few days ago, w/ the intent of having a BETTER look at the devastation of that fire. I took this pic of where it started (pretty obviously as a result of a discarded cigarette...)

then turned UP this road to see more, tho' I wasn't able to get to the worst of it.

As I returned to BC 33 I took a last pic, then continued to ride to find some 'dirt'....
