Look what I arrived home to

Went to town today to go shopping for a digital camera, left my truck at my wife's work but left my cell at home, come back to her work 1.5hrs later to find her workmate had gone out to pick my son up as he was in tears as he stuffed his door backing out of the garage and could not shut it. he works on after school job from 4pm to 9pm at a supermarket stacking fruit etc three night a week but since he has finished school for the year he was home and since we live in the country it would be about 12km to his work.

He is very upset because he is good with his money and he already had one quote over phone of $500 plus the inconvenience of not having the Toyota sprinter.

This last pic you can see just a sctratch on the garage door where he has got hooked up with the top of the car door. Have not talked to jayden yet but presume he was probably backing out adjusting his music and forgot to shut door.

Can you get a door from the salvage yard? might be a cheap way to go to get him back on the road.

We will look at that, one of my wife's clients were she works gave her his card as his cash jobs for panel work so we may see what he would cost.

Going out soon to use a ratchet tie down to hold the door as shut as possible so we can drive it to town if required. Feel real sory for the boy as we sold him that car 18 months ago and he does look after his stuff for a 17 year old

+ 10. Its not the incident nor the cost, but the lesson learned. Wish Jayden all the best and thank God he is not hurt.

Wow, lucky it didn't pull out the center column of the garage.

I opened a truck door in traffic once. In a hurry, got to the jobsite, didn't look for traffic...you can figure out the rest. Didn't go over too well with the company I was working for at the time. Oh, well. $hit happens!

I'd hit up a salvage yard for a door and hinges and be done with it.

Good luck

You're probably looking at a fender as well. The high tensile steel they're using doesn't bump out well at all, and the anticorrosion coating would be lost from being ground down and refinished. Most shops now do panel replacement. $500 would just be a start unless you're going to do all of the R&R yourself and let the shop do the paint.

Bummer for your son, I remember several times doing something similar to my various vehicles. Not a good feeling.

Not that it helps you any, but a buddy of mine had a Mustang GT and an old Impala for his winter beater. The Mustang had a manual transmission. The driveway is on a bit of a hill. So the Impala is parked on the left side of the driveway and my buddy pulls into the driveway on the right side. He has to get out to raise the garage door, has done this hundreds of times I expect, but for some reason that day he didn't put the parking brake on when he got out of the Mustang. As a result, as he walked up to open the garage door, his GT, driver's door ajar, began rolling down the driveway. When it reached the Impala, the giant chrome bumper met the Mustang's door. The Mustang stopped abruptly with results along the lines of your photos.

The funny part is hearing my buddy recount the story of calling his insurance agent. "Hi. I have a question about how to file a claim. What should I do if both of my vehicles were involved in one accident, but nobody was driving either of them at the time?"

Good thing its just a car. We've all messed at least one up in our younger days. He could have told you his girl friend was pregnant. I would rather it to be the car getting banged..

Just picked up Jayden's car from shop, $325.00, now before you say the colour don't match and there is still a dent in guard panel, we told the guy to do a cheap job as Jayden is paying himself. $325 is a good price in my view considering the damage.
