Always One Who Wants to Wreck Things

Story from my local newspaper:
Sesqui killjoy spoils Canada 150th pride | The London Free Press

In summary, this is the 150th year of Canada as a nation. A retired guy gets permission from the hydro company to hang Canada flags from the hydro poles on his street. Looks terrific. All the neighbours think it's a great idea. BUT, there's always ONE complainer. Now city council is running around trying to decide if this is OK. Really? We have to think about it if it's OK for Canadians to put up Canada flags in Canada to celebrate a Canadian milestone?

I visit in the United States fairly often, and that is one seriously flag waving country. And I think that's great! I doubt this debate would be happening in Texas.

I stopped by the take a picture before somebody makes a stupid decision and forces him to take the flags down.

Thoughts?

Of all the things to complain about...really?!? Good grief. Council should give this the priority it deserves, and put it on the docket for discussion in January.

I live in Ottawa (national capital), kids paint flags on their faces Canada day and all head to parliament hill to party.

The story this morning has it that he has a total of thirty flags to be put up, as requested by the neighbourhood. Maybe find who the whiner was and put a plain black flag on the pole in front of his/her home.

I think the city will likely do nothing at all which is how London council usually operates. If they were to take the flags down the publicity would be negative, and with the proliferation of viral stories today, it would make London look very bad indeed.

In the US, the one complainer usually wins. We can't offend the one, even if we offend the many.
Of course if the one was the person being patriotic, they would be told to stop it.

Even when I stopped by to see the flags on Sunday, he had already put them up on the second block. I Hope this is an idea that already has enough momentum to keep moving forward.
